Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Rosie is hobbling badly
« on: September 26, 2007, 04:38:17 pm »
Poor Rosie, she certainly doesn't look happy. My Jessie had her surgery performed at a Vet teaching hospital in another province, so she spent 5 days under their care before I picked her up. By the time I got her, she was walking pretty much the same as she was prior to surgery. After a few weeks, she was putting full weight on it and walking normal. We were really worried we would have a hard time keeping her quiet as she is a very active dog, but they obviously sense things aren't right, and she was a model patient for the crucial recovery period.

I'm sure Rosie will start to feel better in a few days and in no time the only thing you'll notice is the shaved leg. It's been 4 months for Jessie and the hair still hasn't caught up to her other side. In a way it's a good thing - less likely to get matted  :)

My 3 year old female Leonberger had TPLO in May of this year. We were told the swelling around the paw could happen, but luckily we did not have this issue. Her recovery period went very well and alot faster then I expected.
Wishing Rosie a speedy recovery!

What an adorable pup. Hopefully big brother Corben will soon start enjoying him as well. I love the picture of Corben in your avatar...he is very striking.

Welcome to the group... I have a BMD who is 3.5 years old and had previously owned 2 other's. I also have 2 Leonbergers (soon to be 3 and 2). I understand what you are going through with the pulling on lead when meeting other dogs, but I think you will find the obedience class very helpful for this problem. When I'm brave enough to walk all 3 of mine at once, I find it is best for me to move off the path and make them sit when another dog approaches. This seems to calm them down and they get used to knowing that they don't get to greet every dog they see.
As for the being mouthy still, I have found the best thing to do is ignore them when they do this, as usually they are trying to get our attention. Once they stop and settle down, we pay attention to them again.
Enjoy your pup!

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Canidae Frequent buy program
« on: August 05, 2006, 09:47:20 am »
Just found out today from the pet food store that Canidae changed their frequent buyer program to buy 8 bags get one free as opposed to 12. The lady at the store was also nice enough to return to me 4 of the UPC labels that I had redemmed last week for a free bag.

I have 2 Leo's - a 15 month old male and a 2 year old female.
The female fits the velco description but our male is way more independant and not at all like that.

Where are you in Canada? I am in New Brunswick.

SWEET!

I'll have to check with them to see if it's valid in Canada - that's awesome!  Thanks for letting us know! ;D

It is good in Canada as well and was introduced to me by the pet food store I buy their food. It is the same deal buy 12 bags and the 13th is free. The program is also good on the snap biscuits. Since I have all 3 of mine on Canidae, it doesn't take long to build up the free bags!

The job sounds wonderful and a 7 minute commute compared to what you are doing - how great is that? Wishing you some Leo Luck!

She did a great job - what a beautiful portrait. I checked out her website and she has lots of great portraits in her gallery. Now to find a half decent picture for her to work off....:)
