We love our newfie!! I did daycare and she has been by far the most gentle dog with the kids.  However we struggled to get the best type of food to begin with.  Finally ended with a low protein mix so she didn't grow to fast??  Seemed to work now we feed a mix of kibble and raw.  She's very healthy.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Discipline problems
« on: March 03, 2007, 11:08:18 pm »
hi guys, I have been absent from BPO for quite a while.  My life is nuts!!  Anyway my Lena just turned a year old and I am still having some discipline problems with her.  She's usually good for me but won't mind anyone else and when any type of "bird" is around she's deaf to anybody.  We have lost all or ducks and our turkey, she just drives them away.
I thought this breed was suppose to be calm and docile?? (she's a nufie) Is she still young?  I have been to obedience with her, but just the beginners class.
She is very sweet and I love her so much, but the rest of the family doesn't share my feeling!
HELP!!!

Thanks that helps I thought I had a extra messy girl.  We do keep her food and water outside, partially to seperate from the poms we have in the house.
I live in Minnesota in the north metro area.  But we are around lakes a lot of the summer.  Really would like to see if she has water rescueing in her.
thanks!

I have a couple of questions??
How do you water your newfies in the house with out making a mess?  My dog plays in her wter and makes such a mess.
Also, I would like to look into doing some training with her in water rescue. Any good videos or books that would help?
Thanks!!

Can anyone help!!??  I am looking for the Kirkland signature brand lamb and rice dry dog food.  Costco used to carry it and now they don't.  At least the one close to me in Coon Rapids, Minnesota says it dosen't carry it any more.  And my Lena loves it,  and I can't find anything else she like.  thanks for your help!
p.s. it's for my newfie lena who is 4 months old.

We have had my puppy Lena for about a month and last week my son hit her with his truck coming up the driveway.  Poor kid he felt so bad he didn't see her!  She was x-rayed head to toe and no broken bones but some internal bruising.  She did pick up her ball today and brought to me but I didn't dare throw it.  She's on pain meds so I don't want her to over do it when she can't feel the pain.  Poor thing any suggestions on keeping her calm??

OK I tried to send pics but didn't work...  How do I do it??

Any suggestions on puppy food for my new newfie Lena?  My breeder said to stick with the plain old puppy chow (purina) large breed.  The another breeder said to NEVER feed over 24% protien and that's imposable to find.  Any help would be wonderful.  Also vet only suggested what she sold of corse.
thanks!!
