How do they test for the yeast infection? No I never tested for that because I just went along with my vet. He raises Aussies and I know a few of the people that got their Aussie from my breeder and all the dogs chew, have weak stomachs &/or allergies. How would I find out about that and if it is how do I find out info on treating it? Benadryl work? Thanks for your insight. I rarely have a chance to get on Big Paws while at work so if you could email me when you have time on anything you know I would be sooooo greatful. :) Thanks

His two spots healed thank goodness so pending no reoccurance we will see ya at the dog park sometime this weekend. :) I was reading the interesting blogs on Canidae. Interesting on the "no excercising an hour before & after feeding" because of water & the food mixing and causing bloat. Hmmm Didn't know that. :)

I use to feed Beaux California Natural Lamb & Rice because his allergies were so bad. California Natural was wonderful. Recently his new sister, Gracie Belle, joined our extended family :) and her mom & dad stuck her on Canidae lamb & Rice. We did the slow switch of food then for Beaux so they were on the same thing. I have seen a wonderful change in two areas. His poo is not as hard and troublesome for him. It is "healthy poo". And he use to slow down a day or day and a half the day after running at the park or playing hard. Now, after Canidae, he is back to playing that same evening if he plays hard in the morning. His joints are really benefiting. His vet agreed.
They also make a cookie. Lamb & Rice or Chicken and Rice. He loves them and they smell so fresh & yummy. I keep them in the frig to keep them fresh. The only down fall is I put too much in his food scoop one day (in the morning & evening) and by that night he threw up just the food in two piles. It literally looked like breakfast & dinner. I think with as much water as he drinks and what ya'll were talking about, he got too much food in that belly and thank goodness expelled it. I felt like a horrible mom.. The next day with lite dinner he was back on track. I did notice also with his new food he can't really snack too much on the fatty treats (meaty rawhide filled bones, etc) or else his poo gets runny. Beaux's breeder had allergy and tummy issues with all her pups she sold. So no suprise their on his sensitive tummy. Other that that, on this new Canidae, I have no complaints. Good luck with your baby though.

I saw a topic brought up about allergies. Beaux suffers from them. I do Benadryl (ok'd by his vet) and he has a special ear ointment also. The vet also said to but rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab to clean his ears and any extra that drips off the cotton ball down into his ear will cut through the wax. I am going to try the oatmeal bath for his hot spots and allergies but I have two questions for anyone that might know?:
1. Do I just buy plain Oatmeal shampoo? Is it in the pet or human area of the store?
2. In the past I gave Bo a low dose of steroids per his vet. His vet had occasionally given him a shot because Bo can chew a hot spot on his side in a matter of minutes. One time over night he did one the size of a medium saucer/plate. It was horrible. The steroid deterred him from chewing along with his plastic collar thingie. My question is did I hurt him with the occasional steroid use and is it bad? I am worried now because I saw in a previous Big Paw member's question she said she NEVER gives steroids....
Help?

Her real mommy must have known that part.  ;D I didn't so that is great to know.  ;D I knew it helped calm her but that medical reason rocks! Yes, it is all natural, vanilla bean I think, Bryer's ice cream. Good to know!  ;D

I am so sorry to hear that about Joey. I dog sit for a beautiful lil' Aussie girl and she has siezures. I have been there for the ending of one. She has had her medication adjusted because of wieght changes and is now on Phenobarbital 2 pills (different dose sizes) twice a day. She is amazing. She is in agility and shows. You wouldn't know. It has been a challenge but it all has seem to balance out. As a treat after her siezure we give her a spoon of vanilla ice cream. No medical reason. Just for love. She knows once she is alert again she is getting something positive (a treat) and it will all be okay. Of course we love on her and reassure her that everything is ok. She is a bit confused and at first stand offish right after the siezure but once it's over and she getsher ice cream she is cuddly. Joey is in my thoughts & prayers. You are an awesome mom I am sure.  :) He is very lucky to have a mommy there with him. Take care.
