Tazz,

I also just noticed that earlier this month you were considering adopting 2 OEM pups.  I want to say something on that and hope it isn't taken the wrong way.  Please, as long as you are lucky enough to have your granddaughter with you so much, don't get more dogs.  It is right that the granddaughter is the priority, but dogs have teeth and therefore can bite.  There is no way to be positive something like this wouldn't happen again.  And then you and the dogs have this same horrible situation.

This is Jen - I've never been in this postition before but truly feel for you.  But, if you really feel you can no longer trust her and feel she must leave, please find a rescue group for her breed, especially one that does "re-homing" for pets.  They specialize in screening potential owners, something you really can't do, and finding the perfect match that Dutch deserves.

Please don't even consider having her put down.  Dutch simply reacted, as you've said....she didn't bite because your granddaughter was a child - she snapped and made contact because she was startled (at least his is how it sounds to me).

Your grandbaby, of course, has to take priority over Dutch, and if you feel you can't trust her, its right to find her a new forever home.  If you let me know where you are located, I'll do everything I can to help you find a way to get her placed.  There are many options that give you the peace of mind you need and Dutch the home she deserves too.  Let me help you find them, ok?

Jen

Oh, how cute!  The second picture is stunning.....n ot very ladylike mind you, but stunning anyway!  But WHITE CARPET!!  I've just met you and have the upmost respect for your courage and determination!  The last time I bought carpet, the salesman asked me what color and I told him Dirt colored would be fine.

Thank you everybody - I have to admit I'm the proud mama all over.  I'm trying to get a good one of Ty and Kami (Shih Tzu) playing!  Ty is such a sweetie, he always loses to 15 lbs of mouthy brat!  However, he has had his revenge I think.....I had to take Kami out of full coat to a puppy cut because (1) unbeknownest to me, a Shih Tzu in full coat can sport an aswsome mohawk.....it just takes a lot of mastiff drool and a couple hours to dry! and (2) Ty figured out that her topknot was a mighty handy handle and would pull her across the floor by the ponytail!

Nicole,

I'm new here and haven't gotten to know you yet, but wanted you to know that I am so sorry for you and yours and my thoughts really are with you.  I've done quite a bit of rescue and it seems so wrong when you give a great dog the great home they deserve and then they have another hurdle.  It is so unfair - for Mabel and all of you.  But then again, there is no way its just a coincidence that Mabel found her forever home with you, right when she needed it most.  My thoughts are with you all.

I got Ty at 12 weeks so decided to snap a photo of him every couple of months, sitting on the same couch in basically the same pose.  He is my first super-sized pup and wanted to remember how he got from lil' guy to big guy!

My Ty was born in February of this year - so he's about 8 months old now and I'm learning fast!  He's only my second "non-rescue" pooch and my first Mastiff; I've never made a better choice.

I'm looking forward to talking with everyone and will probably have lots of silly questions to all you that have had these big 'uns for a while, so I'll apologise in advance!
