I have posted in the general discussion.... .. in your plight. Do not give up hun.  I believe in you....You did the right thing.  We will make every effort to make this work. Right BIG PAWS???????

I cannot do this rescue due to the fact that Duke needs a foster home that he can be a real dog in.  I have a 130 pound dog that will not help in this situation.(The big boob that he is....we are working on it)  Also, ordinances state that I cannot take more than 5 animals and to my frustration, I am at that limit and did not realize it.

You must convince your animal control officer to give us enough time to place him in the RIGHT foster home until January, YOU MUST!!!!  For every rule, there is an exception.  Break the rules!!!!(Not the LAW)  Time is needed, period.

In the meantime, you MUST convince your mom to give him some time.  You might be able to convince your mom that not all pit or pit mixes are bad.  Train him in front of your mom.  Convince her right in front of HER.  I don't know your situation, but I believe in you.  You CAN do this. And I am thinking of you, and I believe in YOU!!!!

All the best sweetheart.  You are dear to me.  YOU ARE DOING THE VERY BEST YOU CAN and you are what big paws are all about, and frankly it may not be enough, but we will try to make your dream come true.

We need your help....I am the only one who posted to help....A beautiful high school girl who contacted me on a wonderful pit/boxer mix.  She and animal control convinced a young man to give up his pit/boxer mix because he was beating his dog on a regular basis.  Now he is in the local spca on death row.  They put down pits and pit mixes first because this area is a pit hate area.  She also learned that the other owner before this one beat Duke(if I am not mistaken is his name)

Now for some basic facts.  This guy is hand shy(what a surprise!!!)  He sooooo willing to please that he will stumble over himself to please you.  He is good with kids, and other dogs.  From what I can gather, there is nothing wrong with this guy other than the HUMANS that raised him.

My problem is that I live in a four dog household, one is a Newfy that is very dominate.  This dog needs a foster home that won't abuse and brow beat the already abused dog.  I cannot guarantee this.  This gal has already contacted soooo many rescues(200 I think she said and has only received perhaps 4 replies....sor ry the dog is not pure, your on your own. 

We ALL know that all of the rescues are jammed full of dogs given up because a financial situations.  And the trend is for "No Kill" shelters, this dog is not in one of those situations.... .

She needs our help....please .  JUST UNTIL THE END OF JANUARY.  She has a responsible rescue that she trusts that will find a forever home for this guy.  A good woman I think.

What a horrible lesson to learn to teach a high schooler at such a early time of life to try to save a dog only to commit it to death...don't let this slip by please.  THIS IS WORTHY.  Teach this gal that people DO CARE.

I know you don't know me....My name is Amy and maybe I can help you..... I live in Pa and am willing to help and drive to pick up.   Have 4 but willing to foster.  One westie- if you think he or she can get along with a little one, lets go with it? (I am always up for a challenge) What ever you decide....good luck.  I know what your going through...Went through a transport of " two golden retrievers" and ended up keeping them because they weren't goldens.  I kept them because....the y knew nothing but 3 by 5 cage for about 12 years and died with me, in my house with great respect and with great VALUE.  Good luck with what ever you decide.

You know, your probably right that Cody's skin is probably dry too....I'm just not seeing the physical symptoms...yet .  I'll look into into salmon oil right away.  And rinsing is almost too easy but will start that right away too.  Thank goodness the pool will be closing and we will be going out to the state parks again....Thank s!

My Cody, Newfoundland (16 month old) has been swimming in our swimming pool aaaalll summer long.....He has beautiful long dense fur, but he has developed dry dull fur...I guess due to the chlorine.  His skin is NOT dry....just his fur.  Right now he is on Innova and I really don't plan to change it because he doing really well otherwise..so here is my question....Wo uld adding fish oil to his diet help or hinder his fur or wellbeing? 

(Just so you know we just acquired a beautiful 8 week old pup(named Leroy) and I would like to make sure I do my best to improve our situation before he ends up in our pool next year.)

After everybody's story, there is one other story I'd like to tell.....There was a guy that comes to the dog park on a regular basis.  Never talked to anybody.  He had a dog about 40 pounds....What did he have in his back pocket...one leather glove.....not two.  When his dog would cause a dog fight.....out came the glove, put it on his hand, insert into dog fight, pull his dog out.....this happen every time he took his dog to the park,  Every time!  I don't think this guy was all there after talking to him one day. I can't resist an outsider.

Has anyone had trouble with dog park dogs?

The other week Cody and I ended up at the local dog park.  There was only one other dog and owner at the park at that time.  In other words...no witnesses.  He was a malamute/shepard mix.  This dog went nuts and kept going after his ears. Blood dripping...the whole thing.  This lady had no control over her dog so I ended up pouncing on this beast(trust me, it wasn't pretty) and pinning him to the ground. I had to do something...Co dy just sat there looking at me....I had to protect him.  By the way, I am 48 years old and weigh about 115 pounds.  My face was covered in dust and tear streaks and the darn dog did bite me though he didn't break the skin.  Why do these people bring these dogs to the park if they can't control them? >:(

 Any other stories out there?

Hi everyone,

I stumbled onto your site and decided to stay.  You guys are very approachable and don't even mind dumb questions.  Hats off to you.

Soooo, here's my question.....I currently have a 16 month old pup named Cody(I know, I know not very original name).  Been trained, exercised, neutered...... I am receiving a new pup named Leroy in 3 weeks ;D ;D ;D.....Cody is, shall we say......Rowdy at times.  How should we introduce our new puppy to our big beast and keep his rough play in check?
