Hi Annabelle. Welcome!  :)
That's Bear and Nakita in the pic - 3 and 9 years, respectively. Fairly new here myself and LOVE it.
Can't wait to see pics of your pupper.

Poor Bear. Hopefully he'll find a new buddy soon.  :)  Anybody know of good, soft, indestructable stuffies?  We love a soft buddy, but tend to eat ours.  ::)

Hi Jennifer,

We are from Lowell and we take Winslow to this office

Mc Grath Animal Hospital
(978) 667-2194
31 Lexington Rd
Billerica, MA 01821

The owning partner breeds and shows Mastiffs so they are very Big dog friendly and knowledgeable!! I recomend them and I don't think they are to far from you.

Rich

Thanks Rich! They're not too far; I'll give them a call.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Help Kiah's licking her paw
« on: August 01, 2006, 08:01:07 am »
My Bear was licking his left paw raw, constantly. Sometimes he really got into it and chewed his pads as well. He also suffers almost constant ear infections in his left ear. To boost his immune system we started giving him a couple tablespoons of yogurt in his kibble at every meal. Although the ear is still a problem, his paw and paw pads are left alone.

I would definitely go to the vet, though, as you just never know the first time around.

Good luck - and please let us know what you find out.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Good vet in Massachusetts

Hi all,
I've had two not-so-good experiences with our local vet, and have decided to shop around. Any recommendation s for a good, available, and committed vet who knows big dogs near Concord, MA? I appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Thanks!
Jennifer

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: Question for Saint owners
« on: July 31, 2006, 02:26:07 pm »
I adopted two Saints from our local SPCA two years ago, mostly based on my previous experience with Saints, as well as their stellar reputation.  These Saints were partnered before being surrendered (at investigator recommendation).  Individually, I could not ask for better dogs.  They're sweet, goofy, happy, and mindful.  They are incredibly eager to please and want only to be near us.  They love other people and ADORE children - both those they know and complete strangers.  Together, they pack and can be aggressive - mostly to other dogs.  This is only an issue because my male is 170lbs and if I have both of them, I can't hold them well enough to correct them.  I'm looking for professional help with this issue, and am confident with the right help, I'll have two perfect dogs.  If you get a Saint puppy, you can be confident of their being as the breed describes, or at least close.  But if you adopt/rescue, I would prepare to do a little work.  Either way, they're  well worth it. Good luck!

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Re: Starla chews her pawz...????
« on: June 29, 2006, 12:34:23 pm »
First off, beautiful Saint.  :)
Bear chews his front paws regularly, and more-so when he has an ear infection.  :-\ He seems to focus on the left paw. Vet says it's general allergies (mostly happens in spring and fall), so we give him yogurt with his kibble and it seems to help.  :) He hasn't chewed them raw, but they get red and tender-looking.  Doesn't seem to bother him though.  ::)

FYI, my other Saint doesn't do it at all.

Good luck!

Welcome! Your pups are adorable -- I like the window photo too.  :D  I'm Jennifer, mom to two rescued Saints - Nikita (9) and Bear (3). This is a great place, but addicting!  :D  I have to be careful about getting on at work -- my productivity goes WAY down!  ::)

Yes, Teddy is the cutest puppy.  :) Although it looks like he's seriously considering making a snack of that daffodil!  ;D  I wish I knew my pups as puppies. After seeing all the puppy love here, I know I missed something.  :( Maybe someday.  ;)

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / Re: My First Big Dog Injury

Ouch, been there.  Bear frequently runs while looking behind to be sure Nakita's chasing him. 170 lbs slamming into you at a full run is no fun -- especially when there's no opportunity to brace yourself! :'( I hyper-extended my knee last weekend in just this kind of situation and feel your pain. :(  Hope you feel better soon and there's no lasting damage.

I don't get it either, but I also didn't vote.  :-[  I agree that Mandisa was the best vocalist in the group and I think you could tell by the reaction of the crowd last night that EVERYONE was surprised by the outcome. As much as I'm disappointed (and I am  >:(), I'll tune in next week.  ::)

I agree, he's handsome AND smart. I'd take the bigger bed, too. ;D In fact, we just upgraded to a king size to accommodate adequate snuggling. :D
