I know this as submissive behavior, as that's frequently how other dogs approach mine (who must be dominant).  :-[  I think it's a good thing for you and your newf, though.   :) Jennifer

You're preaching to the choir, sister! :D My standard of cleanliness took a serious nosedive the day I brought these guys home. ;D Hey - what's a little drool among family members? ;)

Actually, our next "trick" for Bear will be to NOT lean up against people he's trying to make friends with... it usually has the opposite effect after he leaves a foot-long, 5-inch wide swath of drool on them. :P Poor guy is just being friendly!

So cute, so funny, and so TRUE!  :D Bear's drool has increased the past few weeks as the weather has been warmer. And you're right, cheese does make bubbles...  :P  just don't shake, don't shake!  ;)Jennifer

Discussions & Information on Grooming / groomer recommendation in MA?
« on: March 30, 2006, 11:45:21 am »
Anyone from Massachusetts know of a good, reliable, dog-knowledgable groomer?  Although we do some grooming on our own, and have frequented the Laundro-mutt in Cambridge (great place!), I like to have the pups done professionally a couple of times per year. Then I take a TON of pics!  ;D  Anybody?  Thanks, Jennifer

Book Club & Noteworthy Reads / Re: books by Katz

It's perfect for book club -- quick, easy read.  I'm just starting Marley :-\ , so will join the club next month. With a n 8-yr old saint, I hate reading books about dying dogs.  :'(

Book Club & Noteworthy Reads / books by Katz
« on: March 30, 2006, 10:42:52 am »
Hey all,
Just wanted to share and recommend any book by Jon Katz.  I just finished reading "The Dogs of Bedlam Farm" and LOVED it.  Laughed, cried, learned... it has it all! :-) This guy is a dog lover and truly understands the emotional and psychological bond that can occur between dogs and humans.
Pick it up today -- or if you'd like, I'm happy to share mine.  Just PM to arrange.

:-) Jennifer

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: American Idol Fans!

Let's be honest --> last night sucked! >:( I'm probably harsh re this show, but remember, they want us to buy an album from these folks AND from the winner. I wouldn't have stayed to watch a free concert of the performances last night.  I think anybody could go home, but hope it's either Bucky or Lisa (sorry!). I usually love Taylor, but he bored me. Chris was just shouting, not much sexy energy. And as much as I love Mandisa, I didn't get her song at all. Paris was fun, but I sort of agreed with Simon -- when she made sexy dance moves, I was a little shocked! :o I'm sure it's my issue.  :P  All that said, I'll still tune in tonight and next week. ;D I'm hooked!

BTW - My Bear sometimes howls along when he hears operatic voices. Maybe I should audition him for AI next year! :D Jennifer

I don't have any experience with this, but I'm sad for both your losses, and for your pups missing their friends. :-[ Hugs to everyone!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Just wondering....

My Nakita girl is very talkative, but mostly in complaint ;) - whiny, growly, squeaky noises.  And she'll bark up a storm if she's not getting her way.  Bear, on the other hand, doesn't say much but will put up a loud "woo, woo, woo, woo" when he's excited to go out.  I don't know if this is typical of saints though.

Haha! What fun! My family is absolutely addicted to American Idol. Here it is:
Elliott -- okay voice, but we can't watch him.
Taylor -- great voice and personality, but a bit too goofy.
Ace -- way hot, but a bit on the "dumb blonde" side.
Chris -- too hot for words, way talented, ooooh baby!  :-*
Bucky -- needs to go home, maybe this week.
Mandisa -- amazing voice, great presence, should win (but probably won't).  :(
Lisa -- eh, okay voice but bores me.
Paris -- immensely talented and confident, love to watch her.
Catherine -- beautiful and talented but needs a bra.  ;)
Kelly -- dumb blonde ('nuf said).

I hate to admit it, but I usually agree with Simon and I really can't stand Paula. But I LOVE the show.  I'll post after the show re who should go home (but I'm still hoping it's Bucky).  :)

This might be too late to matter, but I'm a newbie and just read the post.  ;D

My Bear gets similar big pimple pocket-y looking things under his chin a couple of times a year, and sometimes they pop up around his chin as well. We use a vet-recommended soap (Nova-something) on it (he LOVES getting his chin rubbed), washing the area 2-3x/wk, and it goes away in a week or so.  But this is probably a different problem as Bear has at no time had trouble eating lol.

Can we have an update on Angus?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Greetings all!

Well, I've been lurking for months now and finally decided to jump in!  :D  We adopted two Saints almost three years ago and can't imagine life without them. We also have a cat, three turtles, a frog and several fish.  Oh, and three teenagers!  ;D This is a terrific site - the best I've found - and I've so enjoyed learning and laughing from all of you.  Now I look forward to learning and laughing with you.  :)  I just finished my paw prints and am trying to figure out an "avatar".  ;)  Anyway, just wanted to officially say 'hi'!
