1  BPO Food Forum / Food Discussion & Information / Re: Still doing research on raw food, have some questions...
« on: October 22, 2008, 04:57:35 AM »

I live in Calgary too   Grin I get my raw from tailblaizers I just buy it by the case load as it is chaper. I go with Mountain Dog food (as that is what my holistic vet in Edmonton recommended) and Urban Carnivore as well when I can't get the type of meat I am looking form from Mountain Dog Food. I prefer that the Mountain Dog food is not in the patty form and the varity they have, organ meats chicken backs etc.

When I switched Harley to raw I just made the switch; no weaning from they Evo she was eating and she was fine, no soft stool, upset stomach etc.

May I ask what the average price per case is of the Urban Carnivore and MDF?  We have been impressed by Tail Blazers, we bought a box of pure whole chicken patties from Urban Carnivore, and also bought Top Hand turkey patties.  Tucker will be having his first taste of raw tonight!

Mountain Dog Food is another brand we were interested in, but we liked the wide variety of different types of meat that Urban Carnivore offered...so we decided to try them first.

Sure  Smiley The urban carnivore I didn't buy a case just the box it comes in, I got a box of the beef and a box of the organ meat and they were both around $12/$14 the MDF there are 2 options you can buy a case of 12 packs of the same food or you can mix and match (which is what I did)when you buy a case you also get I believe a 5% discount. So it was around $45 for the case, MUCH cheaper than buying for 2 weeks at a time which is what I used to do. That case will last me about a month.

There are so many reasons I love Harley but the best one is I can be having the worlds crappiest day and when I come home, one look at her happy smiling face and she makes it all go away.  Smiley

I can't believe this product is still on the market. I used it about 5 years ago on my cat. Within 15 minutes she had a reaction, the area that it was applied to had turned bright red and she was howling in pain. I called the emergency vet right away and they told me to wash the area with sunlight dish detergent several times to remove the product from her skin and if she became lethargic to bring her in right away. Thankfully I had caught it right and she was fine. But never again will I buy any of their products.

I went dog sledding in Yellowknife last year and it was so much fun. And the dogs LOVE it. I would do it again. It was super cold (minus 35 celcius) but worth it, and they had the super duper snow suits for us  Grin

Monty is totally adorable. Kiss and it is obvious how much he loves your family.

It's closed minded, hate driven people like him that cause all the problems in the world. It's obvious that he is driven by hate and is trying to spread it. It's sad, unfortunatly he will never change and he will continue to spead his hate. But as long as there are people like us around we don't fall into it but try and stop it then we have done a good thing.  Grin I don't understand why people let themselves be driven by hate and anger. It's not worth it. Sorry I'll get off my enlightened soap box LOL  Grin

« on: August 13, 2008, 01:32:45 PM »

My girl has really bad skin Innova and Orijen the grain free type, used to work well for her. We now only feed her raw, expensive but we only have one dog to feed so we can do it. From what I remember raw takes about 6 hrs to digest and kibble about 12 hrs. Others can feel free to correct me but I think on average that is around the amount of time it takes.  Smiley

OMG Ok I haven't responded to this post yet but the last thing she has done to you just totally Pi$%ed me off. The gall to say that you referred her to this breeder! And that she is not only rehoming her pig she also got a new dog! You are a better person than me because I would have blown my top and ripped a new A$!hole on her. She is treating these animals like objects and not living creatures. I only hope that karma comes and bites her in the a$#.

I would go to another vet, they have a 3 year rabies vaccine, most vets are now using it. For the other vaccines I just titre every year.

I would ask why you didn't get the job. You have a right to know. Especially if you were an internal candidate, that is just professional courtesy.
