Leaving the tail and ears poofy was a great idea. He looks very very cute! What a difference some hair makes huh?

Keeping the tail long earned him a new nickname... "My Little Pony"... now that he has really short fur with the long hair on his tail, I think he looks like a horse  Grin Too cute tho... definately going to cut it the same way next time.

Thanks for all the compliments guys... I was so nervous about the cut. Such a stereotypical mom taking her baby for his first haircut Grin but wow they did a good job!

Oh so much more comfortable. He hasn't started panting once since his new 'do Smiley

I took him to petsmart after the haircut to get him a new toy and he was prancing around showing off his new look to everyone! I was hesitant at first because I didn't know how his coat would grow back, but now I'm SO glad I got it done.

I felt so bad for Buddha... all that fur in Florida, the poor kid was melting! So I took him for a haircut today and I just can't get over how cute he looks.

« on: August 12, 2005, 06:24:46 PM »

Hey everyone....

Someone on another board I post to has lost her dog in the NYC/Westchester area. She actually lives in Maine, so it's very hard for her to try and find him long distance. She is asking if anyone in the area can just keep a look out for him, or if you have any rescue/vet/shelter contacts to make them aware.

Here is her original post http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1123280858 which includes a picture of her dog. She can also be contacted directly through that site.

Thanks for anyone who can help!

I can't bring myself to order from In The Company of Dogs. They completely scr*wed me on an order I placed with them and haven't been able to bring myself to buy from them since. Every time I get one of their catalogs all I can think is "they have a lot of gall sending me this".

But it's good to know that they do really work. Boo is only 75lbs (I call him my Newf that got shrunk in the dryer Grin) so he might not pop it. But I'll definately check out the two threads in recommended reading.

Thanks!

My two also hate to be seperated, but I found a way around it.

When I'm working with one, the other gets locked in the cage (or another room) with a kong stuffed with either peanut butter or cream cheese. Whoever has the kong doesnt even know the other one is missing because s/he's too busy stuffing his/her face.

Then, when I'm done training the first one, the other gets locked up with the kong and the one who was locked up first gets trained. Worked lovely.

Even if I think it's out of his reach, Buddha will find it and eat it.

That includes, but is not limited to, shoes, power cords (live and not live), papers, the couch, my coffee table, a pack of cigarettes, socks (swallows them whole), my cable remote (twice)... etc. I'm pretty sure he thinks the world is his chew toy  Cheesy My bf jokes that the only words that come out of my mouth anymore are "Buddha, NO!" and "Buddha, get off the couch!"

He once chewed through the wire of my paper shredder while I was shredding something. He's also eaten computer cables (and my computer is never off, so it was live), a printer cable and if memory serves, the power cable to my air purifier as well.

He's still alive, kicking and chewing  Grin

« on: August 09, 2005, 05:24:04 PM »

Hey everyone!

I've been looking into some of the neat cooling beds for Boo. Being that I live in Florida and Boo has a newfie coat (although, possibly a little thinner because of the heat down here), I was thinking that one of these beds might be really comfortable for him. But... I've never bought or used one. Has anyone tried these? Are they any good? Is there one brand thats better than another? He lives in an air conditioned house, but with hurricane season upon me, I want to be prepared in case I lose electricity.

The ones I'm talking about are the ones that look like regular dog beds but have either a foam or crystal layer in the middle that you fill with water. Supposedly the water reacts with the crystals/foam and keeps the bed cool no matter what the temperature.

Thanks  Grin

I used to foster cats and at one point had 15 of them in my house (6 indoor, 7 outdoor from a little a stray had under my shed). At the time I only had my Karma (lab/greyhound) and she got along fabulously with them. Heck she and Jack used to share a dog bed  Cheesy

But I know your question is about Newfs....

When I adopted Boo (my newf), I was down a bit on the number of cats... some adopted, some put down due to illness, but there were still a chunk of them in the house. I also take him to my bf's parents house and they have 3 cats. He hasn't had a problem with any of them, even at the first meeting with a new cat. If anything he just wants to cuddle and lick the heck out of them Smiley I have never had any problems with any of my dogs and any of my cats. It took a few weeks for everyone to get used to each other and learn each other's boundaries, but nothing violent... nothing agressive... more like "Do you want to snuggle with me? No, ok then I'll leave you alone" kind of thing.

Man I have so many pictures of them, its hard to pick just a few!

Karma (greyhound/lab mix... just shy of 2 years old)

and Buddha (newfoundland/lab mix... almost a year old)
These pics were taken when he was about 4 months... I'll get newer ones when I can, but he ate the cable that connects my digicam to my computer  Cheesy

Count my bf in on this one. He has two songs he likes to sing to Buddha:

From Aladin...
"Mister B, fabulous he, Buddha Ababwa"

and from the Love Boat theme song:
"Boooo bear, soon we'll be taking another walk..."

then there are just random songs he makes up and sings to the both of them  Grin

Actually that's how I found out about it. My mom called me up from NY and said "you have to check this out! Buddha would fit in perfect there, and maybe you can sneak Karma in since she's just under the 60lb limit"  Cheesy

Oh, so, hi everyone. I'm new  Smiley
