Canadian Inuit dog (I want to try running a pure one)
Saarloos wolfhound
Alaskan klee kai
Norfolk terrier
Irish wolfhound
Pit bull
McKenzie River Husky

Alaskan Malamute Discussions / Re: Things to do in summer months

While I was looking around at different online mushing stores, I found a jacket for dogs that reflects heat. I might look into getting her one for next summer (we'll be living in Talkeetna then, and their summers are way hotter than Anchorage's). It'd be worth it if it works. I'll let you guys know if it works.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Is this normal?

Is it normal for a dog to actually enjoy wearing a cone?
Or does he just like looking cool?

Sorry, I know that this is Arcticjoe's questrion, but I strongly feel that anyone who thinks mushing is cruel has no idea how much work, comitment, time, love, and trust goes into it.

Alaskan Malamute Pictures / Pictures of Kallie
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:05:12 pm »
Here's a few Kallie pictures for everyone.

1) Kallie sitting on Sher while driving home after a run.
2) Kallie jumping/flying while racing the neighbor's Lab.
3) Kallie watching the Iditarod on tv.
4) Kallie as a 3 month old puppy right outside of McGrath, Alaska.
5) Kallie "talking."
6) All the big dogs in a row with Kallie in the middle.
7) I can't believe that she was sitting still for me while I took her picture, lol.

I feel awful for Kallie. She's perfectly fine in winter, but in summer it gets to the point where she's almost hyperventilati ng if we take a short walk in 60 degrees.
Luckily, the Alaskans do fine in this heat. Sher has taken to sunbathing on top of his house and swimming when we go to Sand Lake (it's about 2 blocks from our place).

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / Re: New Here

Thanks for the welcome  ;D.
Arcticjoe, so far I'm pretty pleased with Kallie. I haven't seen a centimeter of slack in her tugline and she responds to her commands near perfectly. If most Mals are like that, I think that I'd love more.
I added a picture of Jacques. He wants to be a sled dog when he gets big, lol.
The other dog is my neighbor's Sibe mix, Gayla. I'm going to see if I can borrow her this winter. She was originally a stray, picked up and trained by a musher, and then given to my neighbor. She's a bit fat, but she seems to respond to training really fast (I think that she's glad to be out of the backyard to tell you the truth!).

Mixed Breed Discussion / Re: Please help!

He's looking pretty skinny. For gaining weight and getting him to eat, try putting bacon grease and fat into his dry dog food.
I also agree that you need a new vet. Sibes are anything but "not very bright!"

Those are awesome pictures! I have to admit that I love seeing Malamute and Sibe teams to Alaskans (shh, don't tell my guys). Mals and Sibes are so beautiful and they look suited to the enviornment perfectly.

Excellent shot! Beautiful dogs too  ;D.

I don't mind little dogs, but there are definite differences b/t big and small.  I have always preferred big dogs to small, but I would not have a problem with getting a small dog at some time, provided I can also have my big dog.  Actually, I am forced to get a small dog as our next dog.  My husband is not really a big dog person, and even thinks that Keiko is too big.  How is a husky (shepherd mix, but husky sized) too big?  After getting our dane, I promised him our next one would be small.  But absolutely NOOOOO poodles, his breed of choice.

Ever thought of a Klee Kai? They're sort of like mini-Sibes, lol.

To be honest, little dogs scare me ( well pugs don't), especially poodles.

I don't blame you.

Great pictures! It looks like it was a lot of fun!  ;D That picture of him and the vodka reminded me of when Kallie got into my dad's whiskey, lol.
The last picture is beautiful. Excellent timing!
