Akita Discussions / Re: You Don't Have To Be Big To Be A Bully!!
« on: August 15, 2005, 01:00:25 pm »
I agree with everyone here. I try to teach Jacques manners. He just gets really excited when he meets other dogs, and he does a bird peck to get them to play (we've been working on that one, and still are).
Anyways, up our street is a person with 2 toy poodles. Those things are so nasty! Their owner came over once to talk to my mom, and she had bandages from her wrist up to nearly her shoulder. It turns out that her "loving" poodles dislike being brushed.  >:( Man, if one of MY dogs did that, they'd be getting held down on the ground, and then having a lot of training.
On the street behind ours, there's a person who breeds toy poodles (I think that that's where our neighbor got hers). They have 7 of them, and they're allowe to run loose. When I was walking Sher, all 7 of them ran up to us snarling and growling. When one of them went for Sher, we turned around and went home. The dogs actually followed us, and tried to bite me through my boots!! Those dogs were soooo lucky that I didn't have my rifle on me, or they'd be long gone (I don't tolerate dogs trying to bite me).

Thanks  ;D. Sher is actually 10 years old. He usually runs in double lead with Ty. Ty is kind of a seeing eye dog for him. I help him a little with commands. I use "Gee" and "Haw" to direct him right and left, "Easy Gee/Haw" to tell him to be careful on his right/left side, and I use "Gee/Haw Around" to have him go around something to the right or left side (Ty helps him out). Now that Ty is retired, I'm training Kallie to take over as his eyes.

The little guy here is the boss of all.
That's Jacques (our mascot) and my wheel dog Kallie.

She's so cute as a puppy! I love that bow picture, I think that it'd make a great Christmas card  ;D. I love that picture of her wading, it looks so nice and cold (we've been in the 80s today)  ;D!

Hi, I just joined, and I wanted to share some pictures of my guys.

Here's Sherwen. He's a blind Alaskan husky (mix bred specifically for mushing).

My Canadian Inuit dog/Malamute mix named Kallie offering her paw.

Our grumpy old man Tyrone, lol. He's an Alaskan husky also.

Our mascot Jacques.

Everyone hooked up and running.

Our super puppy.

The big dogs all lined up to see who's in the driveway.

Here's an "Awwww" picture to finish off with  ;D.

Enjoy!

Hi, I'm new here. I have 4 dogs at the moment. I'm a second generation dog musher, and I'm entering my first race (Jr. Yukon Quest) next year.
At the moment, I have 4 dogs.
Kaltag ("Kallie") is a Canadian Inuit dog/Malamute mix.
Sherwen and Tyrone are Alaskan huskies.
Jacques is a Bichon frise.
Here's a picture of the team:

Hi, I love working dogs and I would bet sled dogs are very happy dogs and love their work, RIGHT???

Yep. My guys go absolutely insane when they see their harnesses. Ty's eyes light up, he starts to jump up and down, his tail goes 100 miles an hour, and he barks if he's not harnessed. Kallie and Sher do pretty much the same thing, but Sher bays.
