Rottweiler Pictures / Re: Pictues from self-serve dog wash
« on: November 29, 2005, 07:25:51 pm »
we just took both dogs to the self-wash before thnxgiving... at the end, i had a severe panic attack and had to get the heck out... I was stuck with washing Nikki.. and she OWNED me.. wouldn't walk the plank into the tub, wouldn't stay still, wouldn't sit, or get up and forget about the dryer.. holy cow... that really FREAKED HER OUT!!!

looks like it's gonna be a normal thing for us now, since the winter's upon us :( :( :(

the place we went to (in Chicago):
http://www.scrubyourpup.com
has a frequent washing program, but the shop itself is pretty beat and ghetto ;)

hu~monster/Shellie: curious what you're feeding?

we're on our 4th bag? switched to lamb formula for both dogs. they both enjoyed it more than the chicken formula.

Nikki is 10 months old now, still a puppy to me. there's not TOO much protein in this food (maybe a weebit higher than some others by 2-3%); definitely not like EVO (not knocking EVO, which i know many breeders are using as puppy food).

ambivalent about Diamond itself as they do make some really lousy dog foods, but this one is a-ok by me... so far.. tho Nikki's been doing the cowpie thing for weeks now, dunno why...

do you guys feed COOKD sweet potatoes? or raw sweet potatoes?

Great Dane Discussions / Re: New pup hates cold weather

is it universal for puppies to hate their first snow? nikki is only 10months old, but she just doesn't care if it's snowing outside.. well, then again, it was cold in Jan when she was born so... or is it more breed specific? (her being a St. and all?)

this is kinda like my worst nitemare... this and the daydream about my dogs attacking another person while being babysat...  poor poodle, poor house (which i assume is pretty disgusting right now) and poor you!

one reason my gf wouldn't let me buy that 9mm i've always wanted... she might kill me in a heat of an argument... i thought that was a pretty valid point so.. no handgun for me...

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Re: Ugh. What are we doing wrong?

ooo.. another thought: 4 cups of water for a st. bernard is apparently NOTHING. doing a quick search, you'll see Bernie pups can drink quarts and quarts at a time... which is why i resorted to a 14 qt BUCKET for both dogs...

Lisa,
sucks to hear this... i was going thru the same routine just about a month ago and Nikki is already 9 months old. she'd pee in the most random positions, places, etc. and finally, once in the crate.

we, of course, live in chicago and also rent so the hardwood situation is close to my heart. that said, Crede is a rescue dog & you just don't "know" his previous behavior/environment. i think you can only be ready w/ plenty of paper towels/nature's miracle & lots of patience. afterall, he's still new-to-you and some dogs take much longer to adjust to a new environment.

not too sure what to do about the baby in pee situation tho...

g'luck and i look forward to meeting you guys next.. SPRING?

doghealer: heh... welp.. when i GOT nikki, the PO said she was 90 lbs... then i went to the vet, and she scaled at only 70 and i was like..  ???

and now, 2 months later, she gained 5 lbs to 75.. so yah.. i LIED on PawPrints   ;)

tho, reading this thread... i must say: HOORAY for Costco food dog! it's da b0mb! (and cheap bombs at that)

Saint Bernard General Discussions / save his tail!
« on: November 15, 2005, 02:25:51 am »
so... nikki has this habit... of yankin out all of cody's tail fur... i didn't think much of it first.... but ... seriously.. .cody's tail's getting a bit on the SPARSE side after 2 months of this shenanigans... and tonite, i checked nikki's crate, full of spat-out golden retriever fur.

should i put some hot sauce/bitter apple on cody's tail? seems kinda gross but... i don't want a mangled tail just cuz the new(er) pup's a doofus...
