Update!! Well, shes a tiny bit better, but not a whole lot. Yesterday, I didnt feed her before I put her in the crate, so she didnt poop in it. YAY!! I do have a question..does anyone think that I should leave the door open so that Gus can go in and see her or should I keep shutting the door so they areseparated. Im just afraid that seeing him will make her go balistic! What do you guys think?

Thats awesome, thank you! I figured there was at least a little bit of separation anxiety in there. I cam home last night and the damage wasnt nearly as bad. This morning I left the radio off and put her in there again. Im going home on my lunch again to check on her so we'll see for today. I asked my neighboor and he said that he cant hear her barking so that relieves the stress a little bit for me. I put the blanket on but not all the way. Since the weather is really getting bad here its pretty dark in there anyway so Im hoping she'll sleep. Eventually Im hoping shell learn  and just sleep most of the day. My lunch is only 30 minutes so all I have time to do is let them out to go potty then its back in. Any other tips would ber great. Im worried...

Wow, thank you so much! That was awesome. Nova is my first pit bull. I have never listened to the stereotypes that come along with them because I ALWAYS, even as a child, knew that pit pulls were agressive because THEIR OWNERS made them that way. My mother went along with it and was scared of pits until now. With me having Nova she is learning that it is not the breed that is aggressive. Yes, they have certain traits, but dogs learn what WE teach them. That was very moving and it is an issue that needs to be addressed. It is absolutely true that EVERY dog has it in them by nature to be aggressive when necessary, it is our responsiblity to teach them when to act on it, and when not to. It is up to all of us doglovers and humans alike to spread the word. SO many pits are being killed and not allowed in the US because of this sterotype. This has got to stop!! What next is the question?? Will they ban large breeds beacause they are intimidating in size?

Thank You to you for posting this.

Putting her in it when Im at home is a REALLY good idea. Ill definetly try that. Im just at a loss at this point. I love her to death, and I dont want to have to give her away. So, this is the last thing. I think it will work out great, I jsut have to give it time.

I know, shes the same way!! I just want to know if theres anything that I can do to try and releax her or keep her from being so destructive in the crate. I put her teething bone and her big bone in there, her favorite toy, and a ball. What else?? Gus is in a different room so he doesnt taunt her and make her even more nuts. WHAT DO I DO!! IM DESPERATE!

I tried everything before deciding on crating her. She was destroying EVERYTHING!!! When she kept eating my carpet was the final straw. I think the crate thing would be ideal for her, I just dont want her to hurt herself or something.

« on: November 28, 2006, 05:49:10 AM »

Hey everyone, so I decided to start crate training Nova..I started 3 days ago. The first 2 days I was off work so she really wasnt in there all that much. Today, I put her in there at about 9:40 this morning before I went to work, then went home on my lunch at about 2:00. It was a disaster!! She had pulled the blanket I put over the crate thru the bars and ripped it to shreds, she managed to slide the tray out, pooped all over, and was barking up a storm. Some of you know the story of my neighboor below me, so needless to say this doesnt help. So, I NEED SOME TIPS PEOPLE!! What is the best way to get her use to it? Everyone I talk to says their dog LOVES his/her crate. She is going nuts!! I put her in my room, shut the door, and turn the radio on. I know it will take some time, but I need some advice! I dont know how to do this except put her in there with a few toys, her bones, and cover it with a blanket. Anything would be soooo helpful! Thanks everyone!

thanks Gracie Belle, it does suck a lot! I just hate that people have to be like this. I was sitting at home last night and all I heard was the thumping of his stupid techno music for 2 hours, but did I call the office and complain? No. Or when he has his drug addict friends over and the whole hallway smell like pot? no. Why? Because I know that part if living in an apartment complex is dealing with the neighboors. Honestly, you cant expect it to be quiet all the time when you have 3 other apartments attached to yours. Seriously. Oh, and he came home at 2 this morning and made all kinds of noise too. But, Im still going to just transfer. It would be less stressful for me and my dogs to just get the h*ll out of there. OH!! I took some pisc of Nova finally so Ill post them as soon as I get them developed. You guys havent seen her yet! Shes growing like a monster, and Im pretty sure shes Bull Mastiff, not pit. The mother was abandoned so Im thinking they guessed pit because of her brindle. Ill let you guys take a guess when I get the pics posted! Have a good day everyone!!

WOW! Thanks a lot. I know that when he went up to the office yesterday morning (he got there before me) he conveniently left out the part where he screamed and cussed and yelled like a psycho. When I told them that I could tell that they weretn surprised. A similar situation happened in August when he got up in the face of another neighboor and she was so scared after that, her mom called the office and cussed out management for it. So, they know he has a history of being nuts! I would just rather move and wash my hands of it. Even though the things he said werent true, they were really hurtful. I put a lot of work into my house and it staying clean and dog-odor free, and for him to say that its nasty, Im nasty, and my dogs are nasty!! That almost made me cry, noone should have to hear things like that, even if it was true. My house is always clean and I spend a lot of money on air freshner, candles, insense, the works. Every time someone comes over I make it a point to ask them, I know they would tell me, and the answer is ALWAYS no, it doesnt stink. In fact, most of them say that it smells good in my house. I guess he was just looking for something to say that would push my buttons. I have to live there thru December, believe me, I am going to be looking for anything I can use against him if necessary. I would LOVE to get him evicted!! I would still move though. It will be nice to be able to start over in a new place, and this time Im going to make sure that its downstairs so that I dont bother anyone. It sounds stupid, but I really do still feel bad. Even though hes the one being all crazy n s***. I dont like drama in my life and I dont like fighting with anyone, regardless of who they are.

Great idea, the vaseline under the door handles sounds awesome!! Im totally going to do that, after I transfer of course!! : ) Ya, he definetley has WAY too much time on his hands, The funny thing is that he also has two dogs, and his dogs bark and I know he doesnt pick up after them either, but Im not the type of person to do things to hurt people or get them in trouble. So, Im just going to be good until January, then pack my stuff and leave him there. I told him that all this is going to come back on him one day. He thinks hes the perfect pet owner, ya right. He doesnt give his any attention, and hes never home either. He is a student and lives off of student loans, so he doenst even work. Hes just a loser. Im not judgemental, but hes gay, and man he is SO dramatic!! I have nothing at all against gay people but gay men always seem to act like this!! Drama drama drama!! lol. Thanks guys, its good to know theres people that understand. Id like to get a house, but that seems out of my reach right now.

Thanks, Im not scared of him by any means, but while we were arguing he did come up and bang really hard on my door and told me to come out. I told him that I wasnt opening the door while he was having his temper tantrum. So, I dont want to move at all, and he can go ahead and feel like hes won by me moving, but hes still gonna be the mean, hateful, vindictive a**hole long after Im gone. Plus, it will all come back on him one day. So Im just gonna mind my business until I move. My friend suggessted saran wrapping his car when I leave. hahahahaha

Ok, so heres the thing. I love in an apartment complex that allows dogs of any size, which is rare and awesome!! Part of the lease is that you will pick up after you dogs when they poop, ok thats fine. Well, they sent out a notice in August that they were having a big problem with people not doing it and they might have to take away pet priveleges if it didnt get better. Well, havent heard anythig since and nobody does it still. Well, I got my puppy in October and shes been doing great. One time about two weeks after I got her and she peed in the breezeway of my building. My neighboor below me freaked out and called me accusing me and cussing and screaming. I apologized and said I would watch her more carefully. Gus, my 2 year old dog, does great and will hold it until the end of the world if he has to! So...basically I get home last night and theres a note on my door from the office saying that Im getting complaints about an odor of urine in the breezeway and me not cleaning up after my dogs. I got really mad and sent him a text to tell him two can play that game.  So, he calls me and the first thing he says is "Look here you stupid B****! OMG!! h*ll no!! So we get into a huge argument, hes calling me every name in the book and saying the most awful things about me and my dogs. To sum it up, he said that hes going to keep complaining and try and get me kicked out of my apartment. All I wanted was for him to calm down and stop screaming and cussing at me!! I went to the office this morning and they said either we would have to work it out,or one of us will just have to move.

So, I have decided to transfer to a different aparment. It will be with the same company and I wont have to pay anything extra, just transfer my utilities. Plus, Ill have a nice new clean aparment and no crazy neighboor. Isnt that awful? People are NEVER mean to me and never speak to me the way he did. He says noone in the complex likes me or my dogs. Well I have spoken to my other neighboors and they said they have no problems with me. Gus barks when people come up the stairs or right after I leave and thats it. Ok, Im sorry I just had to tell you guys cause I knew you would understand. Any suggestions on what I should do??
