Newfoundland Pictures / Re: New mom of Newfie pup!
« on: September 19, 2005, 06:03:16 pm »
Jacque, I know exactly what you mean.  I have to wait until saturday to get my baby.  I have waited weeks and weeks already.   This last week is really hard.  Friday night we get to drive to Ohio, spend the night, then get Webster early on Sat. Morning.  I had a newfie named Hightower for just shy of 14 years.  He passed away about  4 years ago.  We now have a 3 year old goldie, he is absolutely wonderful, gorgeous and smart.  But he is so my husbands's dog!  My head does NOT need another hairy house dog.  My HEART insists on another newfie.  It is past time and it is hard to wait another week.  I am so glad to have found this site, full of people who understand dog hair and slobber, pee and poopies, chewed up stuff and the sheer adoration and love that only a big paw can give.  You can expect a ton of pics from this little place in Kentucky, starting next w/e.!!! Oh, my avatar is Webster at 6 weeks.

Newfoundland Discussions / puppy training rewards
« on: September 17, 2005, 11:46:34 am »

Next week I will have my 8week old newfie puppy with me.  Years ago we used hotdogs for training tidbits.  Seems that might cause some weight probs.  What do most of you like to use for rewards.  First training coming up of course is potty training, then the basics, sit stay, down etc.  I would like to have the right thing on hand.  Gee, I am like a first time mother, toys, crate, blankies, grooming supplies, etc.  It is so hard to wait this last week.....

Thanks for the input everyone.  I am hoping it will come down on its own.  I am so looking forward to a new puppy.  I've been waiting on this little guy for months.  I will get him next saturday.  A four hour drive, but worth every minute!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Undescended testicle

I have a question.  I am to get a newfie puppy next week.  The breeder has informed me that at the 6 week vet check, he still had one undescended testicle.  Will this be a problem?  I do not plan to show him, in fact, he will be neutered.  Otherwise, he is perfectly healthy and quite true to type.  Just wondered if there were other probs associated with this.

Just want to say hello.  I am getting my newf pup in one week.  I am very excited about it!  I had a newf for almost 14 years.  He passed away about 4 years ago.  We now have a golden retriever who is wonderful, he just isn't a newfie.  I have to have a newf!  I look forward to reading all these posts.  Already I have been reminded of much and learned a lot. I will post pics as soon as I get him home.
