With a Goldie and a newf, I have lots of hair to brush.  I couldn't do it without the rake and a slicker.  Then a spritz of laser sheen for a glossy shine.

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: newfies and adolescence
« on: February 17, 2006, 09:14:28 am »
When does adolescence start?  Webster is just 5 1/2 months, but his personality is definately changing.  My baby who never chewed up anything he wasn't supposed to, now finds the laundry basket his personal toy chest, pulls towels off the rack, can get up on the bed by himself unless there is someone around, (then he needs you to stop what you are doing and give a hands up) and he absolutely cannot make up is mind if he wants to be inside or outside. (just like a little kid)  He is very insistant on what he wants and talks back when told NO. My husband calls him a "newfance" (nuisance)  But when Webster is not looking, I have to laugh.  This breed of puppy is so much like a human child. (I've raised 4 skin kids) I can't imagine ever not having a newfie in my house.
PS: You can't say anything bad about Fumble!  Webster and I think he is the greatest!

Great Book!  What else can be said?  It was a great book.

I started the book last night, laughed myself to tears til 2 am, was almost late for work this morning.  I work as a home health nurse and reas some between patients.  It is almost 7pm here now and I will definately finish it tonite.  I can almost guess how it ends, and the tears are ready.  My newf of 14 years (Hightower) passed on 2 years ago and I STILL cry thinking of what a wonderful member of my family he was.  It seems sacriligious to say he was my child........ but he was in so many ways.   I still grieve for him.  I have Webster now, who is sooooooooooo unlike Hightower, and that is how it should be.  Someone on here once grumped at me for comparing Hightower and Webster, but I don't expect them to be alike.  There will NEVER be another Hightower in my life.     But when all is said and done, there will never be another Webster either.  The little bloke has stolen my heart already.   The book is a definate MUST READ for anyone who loves dogs the way folks on here seem to love dogs/

Welcome to BPO.  I am flat out jealous!  FOUR newfies!  I have a just turned 6mo old black newfie pup and a 4 year old golden retriever.  This is a great place to learn and share about our big pawed friends.

Welcome aboard.  This is a great place to learn how to care for big dogs.  Newfies are wonderful!  (sometimes they can be a bit of a "newfance" though.  Then this is a good place to come and rant and rave and find out how "normal" this is.  I had a newf for 14 years, and I am now the mom to a 5 month old newf puppy.  I know the care and training that goes into raising a puppy, returns tenfold as the dog matures and he/she will be your best friend and buddy!  The younger years are a lot of hard work, a lot of entertainment, and just down right awesome as you discover just how smart these dogs really are.  Looking forward to pictures, we love PICTURES!  In fact, I really need to update Websters.... he is 5 months old and 65 pounds already!

webster was a bowl drinker by the time he was 4 months old.  Doesnt matter if the lid is down, he knows up to "nose" it up and stick his head in!

Webster is a whopping 5mo old and 66 pounds.  Hard to believe how fast a newf can grow.  I have noticed his eyes yesterday and today have that blood red look at the bottom, just under the bottom lid.  They are not "popped", just the lining is very red.  It happened once before and it went away in a day, what causes this, how do I fix it, and how do I stop it from happening again.  It doesn't seem to bother him, just looks a bit eery.  I can't send a picture just now,  the computer isn't "reading" my memory card.

I would love to get to see Bear in person!  I think he is just gorgeous.  I know Webster would LOVE to sniff him and be sniffed.  I would love for Webster to grow up to be just like Bear.
