What a cute picture of Ms. Rosie!!  I'm so sorry to hear about the complications with the TPLO>  Ick!!  Poor thing!!!  I've constantly got my eyes on Fumble's right knee, waiting for it any minute to go, just like it's neighbor the left!

What a cutie though!  We're hire her to rescue us any day!

too bad she's so sensitive with dry kibble... i heard that Solid Gold "over the moon" is great for weight to be put on.  it's all protein.  That's what i've heard that if you want to put weight on it's Protein, Protein, Protein!!

what a cutie too!!!

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: How big will Tank be??
« on: July 16, 2008, 07:31:36 am »
It's tough to tell how big they will be..  you can look at the parents of Tank and maybe predict.  Fumble is going to be 3 very soon and he's still growing, so it's pretty unpredictable!

Good luck though!  he looks like he's got some room to grow!

well... fumble is just turning 3 July 20th and he's still growing... so i'm not sure the teeth falling out thing holds true to every dog... maybe with some it's a sign...
My breeder said they really aren't "full" grown until they are 3...

Fumble gets about 2 1/2 cups each meal, twice a day... so that seems right with the food.  Typically you can tell when you  need to adjust.  Either based on weight or activity level.

We use an elevated feeder.  Our breeder said it helps with digestion.  Plus, being so tall i can't imagine practially having to lay down to eat!  I even make sure that whenever he gets water to give it to him higher up.  Also, to prevent bloat (and i'm sure you know this) try to limit activity an hour prior to and after feeding.  Good luck!

With the drool! no help there.  i've got drool everywhere, even on the keyboard of stacy's lap top.  They make computer wipes, you could try those!

Newfoundland Discussions / Re: Maybe he is a protector after all!

I hope bear gets an ice cream for that!!!  GOOD BOY BEAR!! Protect your little mama!  :)  It really is so funny how they sense a person's personality before we can even think about it.  Plus, I mean come on, how often does Bear growl?  Let alone AT someone... This guy must have been a major CREEPO! behind the exterior...

Yah for BEAR the Protector!!!

sidenote:  Fumble has FINALLY become protective!  He gets the big boy bark if someone comes to the house!  Or even if the renters next door shut their car doors... (basically sounds like someone's at our house)... i love the big wooof!!

Good to see you guys.  Mr. Fumble looks like he's having a great summer.  Are there any beaches on Cape Cod that are dog friendly?  ???  Geez, beaches & dogs go together like ice cream & cake!   ;D

BTW, are Fumble & Bear really related?  If so, how cool is that?

Hey GoldenPyrs,

No fumble and bear aren't related... bear's a little older.  But man they do look alike?  I would LOVE for them to meet someday!  I can only imagine the two goof balls together!  lol!!

Clifford to answer your question, last time we were at the vet he weighed in at 176.  With his diet changing lately he lost a little, but he looks like he's back to 175 if not more.  but man he is solid!  I've always kept him right at the brink of correct weight.  Gotta keep him healthy any which way i can.

I am so glad to see another big boy. Bear ballooned after the neuter but I think he looks great- just like Fumbs. Bear is at 165 now.

Here is a funny for you- last night I showed Michael the pic of Fumbs face and was like "aww...he is so good looking!" Michael goes "duh? we see him everyday!" I was baffled and go "uh- that is his twin, fumble". we laughed and he was like "well, the genes don't lie. even though they aren't directly related they are close enough and it shows!"  :)

hahaha!   the two are strickingly close!  i did show everyone at work bear's youtube and was like "now this is his long lost twin...." lol... Bear does look great!  He looks like the perfect newfoundland!

i'll have to redmind stacy... she said that she might be headed out to CA for a week or something with her boyfriend because he grew up and his fam is in the LA area.  I'll have to remind her that she should try to meet mr. bear if she goes!  You guys are near LA, right?  I'm not sure when she's going, but that would be awesome if you could meet up with her!

Glad to see ya'll back and that Fumble is enjoying his pool so much.  I have to say that I like Fumble's thinking on this kiddie pool thing.  As long as he keeps you at home and away from the beach his rescuing time is much quicker in the kiddie pool than if he had to actually swim at the beach to get to you.  He's mastered job efficiency and job security.   ;D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA.... i have to share that with everyone i know!!!

The shallow water is much easier to just jump in and pull out of.  Only thing is getting over the distraction of the hose filling it up.  if that's on... well just prepare to be in the water for a while!  fumble only has eyes on the hose!

Thanks for the acceptance everyone!  We've missed all of you!
I would LVOE to take fumbs to the beach, but i guess the fine for dogs on the beach went up to $200!!!  If i brought him over there and saw a cop, my plan would be to let him go and scream "how did a bear get on Cape Cod!!"... but for 200 bucks i'd rather not test it!  I mean come on, that's staph infection antibiotics right there!  i've got to weigh the options!  lol!

I don't have any more pictures of him recently, but i'll be sure to keep taking some to post!  he's still as funny as ever... mr personality!  Oh and with all the tourists and people renting houses... our usual 20 minute walk took us almost 2 hours the other night!!  That's why i call him Mr. Cape Cod!!  lol!

Oh poor Milo!  Fumble has skipped the hot spots and just gone directly to the serious staph infections, so i've never really seen one.  But i've heard that they make the poor things uncomfortable!  Hopefully it heals soon, but i'm sure Milo is in his mommy's hands!!  Fumble sends lots of drooly kisses!

appalled!!!
here is what i posteD!

A. Gorillas are adorable
B. Newfoundlands are adorable
C. YOU ARE NOT ADORABLE!!!

Newfoundlands have to be one of the best and most 'USEFUL' breeds.  What dog do you know that will jump out of a helicopter just for the sheer purpose of saving someone's life (probably even yours if you were in the position).  Yes they drool and they shed, but hey really what dog doesn't.  Oh little dogs you can carry in your purse, but they yip and nip (i've had a couple, and i have loved them dearly so i can say so).  No dog is perfect, but there's no need to poke fun and make judgement against an innocent creature.  You however, are not innocent, you are just plain mean and like i said before not adorable!

i've definately called the Animal Control with a few stray dogs, and they typically will be able to let you know what to do.  Good luck though!  i can't imagine how hard it is to see such an innocent little guy in discomfort! :(
