« on: July 24, 2009, 05:19:04 PM »

Hi,

Before getting the bowl with posts you can try putting thigs in the bowl with the food. Maybe a kong or other washable toy, I used a lacrosse ball, they eat around the toy and slow down!!

You can also try a cupcake tin or two. Fill each cup with some food and your pup has to go from one cup cake whole to the next to eat!! Also slows them down.

Eleveated or not that is up to you!! Winslow eats off the floor but I know others who raise the bowls.

Hi,

Use a ramp it is not good for giant breed dogs to jump in and out, especiallty when the growth plates are still forming!! How would your joints feel if you were constantly jumping 2 to 4 feet to get in and out of the car ;-), These big guys have the same issues with joints as us Bipeds!!

You don't care that the owner of this site will have access to our private information? PMs, chat, etc? The owner whos business is rated "F" by Better Business Bureau? The owner who sells books and videos on how to train dogs while NOT having dogs? Will you take your dog to a trainer who doesn't work with dogs? COME ON! Who can possible be comfortable with that?

Not really, when you post on a PUBLIC forum, doesn't matter who owns it,  you are knowingly putting your information out to who ever wants to dig for it.!! I am intelligent enough to evaluate who and what I do with my Dog and myself. There are plenty of trainers WHO OWN dogs that I'd never let near Winslow, but you research and find out, heck I do that research here!!

Google your own name and I bet you'll be surprised at how much you didn't know about yourself comes up!! If you google your screen name from here your posts will come up and that was happening since day one.

I am comfortable that what I am doing here is not going to cast any Ill light upon me and if a few spammers send me crap it gets deleted. Welcome to the World wide web right.

I understand everyone's point and really have no opinion either way, I have enjoyed everything I have posted, read and learned here and I really hope that will continue into the future. So I'll continue doing so, until it is no longer worth while for me to do so. I am very far from feeling I am done with BPO, so I am looking forward to the future and not dwelling on the past!!

Hi All,

Can we all get back to talking about our Fur Kids PLEASE!! Come on now who cares who owns the place!! As long as we have a place like this to brag about our pets and make, what some here have made, LIFE LONG friends, why all the concern!! Your friends are still here, they still own their pets, they still need food advice, health tips, goofy pictures and arranging play dates.

Before I found BPO, I wasn't a pet person AT ALL!! I lucked out and got the best dog in the world Winslow!! My Newf!! I came here and learned so much!! Where to get the best Kibble, find the best source of tick protection, natural herbal treatments and not chemicals, the Dog Ramp from Kooky, that is fabulous!! I have made friends I will hopefully communicate with for a long long time.

So I'd like to get back to that. Jamie and Micheal gave birth to this Place!! I do not believe thay would throw it in the crapper to make a few bucks( which i do not care if they did, I wish i could make a few bucks doing something I love!!).

Nipa good luck to you, please let the forum thrive!! BPO members make sure we continue to make these forums the place we love spending so much time!!!

Rich & Winslow!!

I know the tiles you are talking about. I have them in my entryway. They look and feel like real wood but are self stick tiles. That is where my 2 do their happy to see me dance when I get home and they have no signs there are dogs on them. We have hauled both my sons stuff in and out that way when they both moved to school and back and on to their own homes & still no marks. Lots of snow and mud tracked in as well. I do have a dyson and I use it on that floor as well but I'm sure your shop vac will take care of the tiles nicely.

Hi do you know the brand of tile you have, maybe i can look them up and to see if we are talking the same product! ;-)

Hi,

Thanks, good info all around! Not enough rugs to spend Dyson money on a vacuum! The x did that once with a kirby, and I was not impressed. I have a doemered cape so the 2 upstairs bedrooms are about 400 square feet.

I want to do wood but just can't swing it yet, so for a short term, 2 or 3 year fix I am thinking the tiles, they have improved a lot for both designs and durability but I am not totally sold yet.

Thanks again for all the input. I'll let you know if i do anything either way.

Hi,

I have older carpeting in the 2 upstairs bedrooms, well under all of wislow's hair there is old carpeting I should say  Roll Eyes

I am thinking of pulling the rugs and putting down vinyl tiles (the self stick stuff) Thoughts on this? If I had the money I'd do wood or laminate floors but I can do tiles(wood simulated tiles) for around $400.00 instead of the $1200 laminate flooring would cost.

Any body have the tiles and how do they hold up! Anything is better than raking the rugs I have now!! This is really only a consideration for ease of up keep!! I have killed 2 vacuums trying to gget the hair out of the rug, so now I actually use the yard rake on the rug then a shop vac to suck up the piles.  Shocked.

The tilese would be sweepable is my thinking!

« on: March 22, 2009, 04:51:22 PM »

Hi,

Ok this is a "do as I say not as I do" reply. The best way to get your pup to stop pulling is to constantly change direction when walking, you walk pup pulls straight ahead, you turn right, gentle tug pup goes right, pup starts to pull agian, you quickly turn left gentle tug, pup follows. Pup statrs pulling again, you make another quick turn, getting the picture here ;-)..  eventually the pup (especially the smart ones) catch on that, this crazy human has no idea where hey are going so I better pay attention!!

Now when I did this it worked great with Winslow!! I did not keep it up post puppy class and now he is a puller again!!  :-(

Hi,

Thanks for the info! I'll look at some of the brands and see where it goes!! I am leaning back toward the canidae as Winslow did great on it for his first 2 years!! but we'll see right now things are fine but just reveiwing budgets and if I can cut down from $100.00 a month on kibble that would be nice, not critical but nice!! Then maybe i can even eat something healthy for a change Smiley

Funny isn't it!! Winslow definately eats better than me and I am happy I can do that for my big fella!!

Hi,

Well when Canidae switched Formula, I switched Winslow to Innova large bite adult (Green Bag) well they switched formula and shrunk the bag also!! I kept Winslow on the new Innova formula and all is fine! Did anyone stay Canidae and how is it going!

My problem is the 30 lbs bag of Innova is now $47.00 and at 2 lbs a day a bag lasts me 2 weeks  Shocked . I see the Canidae is less expensive like ($37.00)and the new formulas for both are kind of close.

I can sure use the $20.00 a month extra!! should I consider the switch back or are there other suggestions out there for a premium kibble at a bargain price.

Winslow has been extremely healthy, on both Kibbles, his coat is great and I don't amd won't change him to a bad food but saving a few dollars on equal quality kibble would really help out!!

What are you all doing in these tighter economic times  Cry

Hi,

Ok you know his apartment # so instead of waiting on him, next time Michael is home, go over to his place Knock on the door and introduce your selves!! Meet him as a neighbor first, get to know him a bit. It sounds a bit like a lonely foreigner looking for a friend, Your in LA right,so for him having a friend with a realy BIG dog may actually make HIM feel more comfortable about walking the neighborhood!! and he doesn't know how to ask!! Plus if it works out you may have a Bear watcher in a pinch if you need one!!!

Instincts are important so if the flag goes up to stay away doing an intro with Michael will make that easier I think!

« on: January 08, 2009, 07:28:28 AM »

Hi,

On feeding off the package, they tend to be a bit high on quantity (they want to sell more 30 pound bags!!) Winslow is doing great and is very healthy and filling out nicely and he gets 2, 8oz cups in the morning and 2 more in the evening. So as long as your PUP looks healthy some where in the 2 to 3 cups a feeding is fine!!
