General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Parker is an odd dog
« on: February 27, 2009, 10:59:27 am »
I'm glad that Parker is settling in some.

Kaila is my cookie whore but no people sluts in my house. (I love that description!) As long as you hold a cookie in your hand then you have the key to Kaila's heart.  Once you are out of cookies then she is done with you.  Shiner well he's just Shiner.

Food Discussion & Information / Re: Best cheapy food for itchy dog
« on: February 27, 2009, 10:56:29 am »
My guys were on Natural Balance for a long time and they loved it.  They looked good and did really well on it.  I also changed them over to Blue Buffalo too and they did well on it also.  The only reason that I went grain free is because Shiner was still really gassy on both of those foods.  Not as bad as he was on Purina but he has minimal gas now that he is grain free.  I know Petco carries Wellness which is what Kaila and Shiner get now and their large bag is $58 (I think).  Not sure how much a small bag would run.

She is very pretty!  I hope things work out for all of you.

When Shiner came here he was scared of the tv.  He would growl and bark everytime a guy came on the tv.  It took some time and lots of treats and he is fine with the house now.  If she is really nervous of the house and everyday stuff there is a listserv for shyk9s and they can help you with a lot of those issues.  I joined it and mostly lurk on the list but there are lots of people that have dogs that are scared in the house for whatever reason.  Pm me if you are interested in the list.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Re: Am I too Picky??

You are right.  You have to be an advocate for your other pets as well as the new potential pet.  If the rescue group says that any dog will chase a cat when it runs they are somewhat correct however the lunge, snap, and growl are way over the top and pose a potential life threatening issue for your cats.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Poor Barffy Titan :(
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:47:35 pm »
I hope Titan is feeling better and gets well soon.  Just FYI: there is a nice little protozoan that can infect dogs from wildlife poo.  We had an outbreak of Sarcocystis in some birds at work one year.  The vet said it was from wildlife fecal material namely raccoons but that the cockroaches would go eat/play in the fecal matter and bring it into the cages with the birds.  The birds started having neurological symptoms and then would drop dead.  Obviously, birds and dogs are different but Sarco can be picked up by mammals.  I don't want to start you worrying for no reason but thought it's always better to be safe than sorry.  If I remember correctly it shows up in a blood test.

All these pics are just too much!  Anyone, have Jo's address, I need to go steal see this little boy in person!  Love the videos of him wobbling around.

Kaila has had 2 partial ACL tears in her right hind leg.  She also had pano as a pup.  She was less than a year old when she had her first partial tear and so we did the conservative maintenance.  Which is a lot of kennel rest, rimadyl, and a lot of leash time.  So not fun for a puppy with tons of energy.  But so far, knock on wood, she hasn't had any more issues with tears of the ACL.

They are too cute!  I'm so glad that red boy has a home to go to or I would be so tempted to grab him and run.

I have to say that I haven't really kept up but then I don't keep up to date on news in my area either.  Glad you are ok and will send along good vibes that they can find your friends that you can't get in touch with right now.

She is a cutie!  I had a rabbit while I was in college.  He was a cute little buddy.

Can't help with names because I have to have my pets name themselves.

I have a few minutes before I leave for a fish shipment but I love the pic of him sleeping with his mouth open.  How about Craven for his name?  It's one of the vampires off of Underworld and close to Draven.

Too funny!  She's a little pill trying to sneak off without you seeing.
