We are still working to get her in the big pool, she isn't a  fan.  There is a really wide step that she could just lie down on, but she has only  attempted it one time and was just so scared.... We are going to work on it more this summer.

Cassie finally figured out the pool was for her to lie down, and not her personal drinking pool!!

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Frosty Paws Saint Size
« on: June 08, 2006, 09:59:34 pm »
We heard about these treats called Frosty Paws, from the freezer section, they look like small ice cream cups(my husband reports they DON'T taste like ice cream).  We purchased them for Cassie, She LOVED them. Small problems... the cups are tiny in my big girls paws, they are expensive and they run out of them all the time.  I researched online and made my own.  I tested them tonight... Cassie is blissed out, She licked the bowl for about 20 minutes.  My recipe:  1 large container of Vanilla or Plain Yogurt, 1/2 cup of water, 2 large tablespoons of peanut butter. Mix together and pour into 4 smaller disposable plastic bowls.  Freeze.  A few alterations of the recipe I read was to add banana, or meat baby food.  I will try those and report on results.  I hope you all have fun and try the frozen treats, anything to keep our furry friends cool.  Good Lick!

I completely understand!!! Life is so darn busy... ANYTIME you are driving through give us a ring and we can try again. No worries. Cassie looks very much to having a playdate with Bear... she would like to give him kisses.

I know Mark and I don't realize how big our baby really is.  However it does come in handy.  We have a new next door neighbor.  You know the best kind that plays really loud music with bass cranked so high your breast bone is vibrating AND you are in your own house, has friends who are a bit shady.  Apparently his parents bought him the house... next door to ours. (Yippee) Cassie was in the front yard on her lead, and he was outside with 4-5 buddies.  I walked over (with Cassie) and introduced myself.  She was on perfect behavior (didn't beg for belly rubs) He said HOW BIG IS SHE... while he stepped back along with the others.  Oh... I don't know. 160-165 pounds. He said, Man that's more than I weigh.  He asked Does she bite?  I said, well she hasn't bit anyone.... YET!"  They all went inside.  I went in and told my husband... He literally fell over in his chair from laughing.  Now, I don't know if this has anything to do with it... BUT we haven't heard any.. THUMP THUMPIN Music in weeks.

Cassie will be two in May(Taurus) She is a svelte 165 pound female.  Her talents are giving kisses, drinking like she lives in the Sahara, Snoring very loudly at times, and Napping....Mos tly Napping. She would like world peace but if that is not an option she will take a treat... preferably cheese stolen from Mommy!

Cassie gets daily walks, and they are the highlight of her day, other than when we come, dinner, treats, belly rubs, ear rubs, and playing chase the stuffed monkey, WALKS are the best! Cassie seems to be really not be enjoying her walks these days. She has had hip issues since a puppy.  But lately it seems she has really been pooping out about 15 minutes into her 35-40 minute walk.  She is not even 2 years old, and I know we are going to have to address the hip problem eventually, but at this time 10K+ is not in the realm of possibility.  Has anyone else seen this.  I will admit this winter she has filled in CONSIDERABLY although still the spritely puppy, she is about a 165 pound female.  I don't think she is really overweight, and I don't think she is overfed.  About 6-7 cups of premium kibble w/ 6 oz of chicken mixed in once a day.  She is panting so hard when we get home, she doesn't drink and just sacks out for a couple of hours(she has always done that) Any thoughts...
By the way I LOVE THIS BOARD and will post new Cassie pics very soon. Thanks to all

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Re: Peanut Butter

I take a 1/2 apple core out the middle and stick a nice spoonful inside...Cassi e's most favorite treat ever!!! She will take the apple and put it between her paws and nibble it till she gets to the peanut butter, and then..... heaven on earth!!! I think moderation is key... my rule of thumb is, would it be too much for me.... Cassie and I weigh within 25 pounds of one another (not saying who weighs more) :) I think.... would I eat this and would this size snack be sufficient.... I could be all wet though.

First of all welcome!!! This site is amazing, we love it. Big dogs are so special and we love this site.  I think the drool is an individual thing... Cassie 11 months/144lbs   has never been a super big drooler.  When she is hot, excited ,hungry or at the bark park, there is a little  but just spontaneous drooling not so much.  She lost her "fuzzy" puppy fur around 5 months I think.... She still has the tinest bit around the top of her ears, now it's very cute. ENJOY!!! the puppy time, it's short with out giant breeds.... take lots of pics! You just forget they were ever little.   Great job on the training, and by the way, come and stay are very difficult for this breed from what I have read.  Cassie has super selective hearing on both those commands even today.... I am sure it has something to do with the fact that I am not a great alpha, although my husband is.  Please feel free to ask all the questions you wish... we are all great about answering.  Take care!

I LOVE THIS BOARD!!! It is so damn relatable..... I was literally laughing out loud at the "tricks" Saints can do!!! These are all Cassie to a perfect T.  Then the stuff about drooling on the other dogs at the dog park... it's so embarassing!!! AND she is right everyone knows its OUR dog!! We take towel to "wipe down" the other dogs.... only once have we had someone get really mad.... my response was... "It's a dog park for gosh sakes, did you notice the poop on the ground... I think my dog's drool is going to be ok"  Hilarious stuff...thanks to all for sharing!!!! :D

My husband and I were in San Diego with Cassie at a dog beach, and off in the distance walking across the sand we see this gigantic dark movement, as it gets closer we see it's a dog and then we see it's a Black Newfie, I stand 5'7'' tall and he absolutely came to the top of my waist, HE DID NOT LOOK REAL.  We thought at first there was a kids program being filmed, and he was a muppett.  He was a total sweetie pie, his owner was a little odd, BUT he was a doll, Cassie at that time was about 3 months old she tried to get him to play, and he just kinda of looked at her as she kept diving under his belly.  There is my story of the largest dog I have seen.  I am always surprised at how people stop us with Cassie and talk about her size, Mark and I clearly don't see it.  In fact we are a bit bummed because she hasn't grown much the past few months.  I guess at 10 months and 144 I should be counting my blessings.... :)

ohhhhh we would totally love it, I am sorry to not have responded sooner.  I am on the road till next Wednesday, Mark and Cassie are taking care of each other.... :)  Our lives will settle when I get back, and we can set a play date.  Our phone is 661-827-1984 and would totally look forward to getting together.  We have often thought an addition to our family someday would be another saint or newfie!! Send me your contact information and we will set something up.
