General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Confused

My dog was fixed on the 11th (or so the pound says) but she's been acting weird since I got her and today I noticed her leaking in the rear and her teats (the rear most two) seem to be filling up.  I've never had a dog until long after they have been fixed so I don't know how mornal this is.  Is she supposed to be acting like she's in heat or pg?  I've been around both (females in heat or pg) so I recognize the way she's acting.  She also mothers her toy including cleaning it.  Should I be worried?

We found our new fur kid yesterday at the pound!  She's a 3 yr old black and tan Dober girl named Holly (changed from Olive).  She's such a sweetheart!  She needs to learn a few tings like not stealing food but she loves the kids, tried to protect us from hubby when he came home last night, she's housebroken, and although she needs some reminding, she's got some basic training.  Of course she whines, kisses, and needs to be pet constantly.  They are obsessions at this point but we're hoping she'll calm down when she settles in.  We are at least her tird family too.  She was given up for having too much energy.  :(  I got a bit worked up when I heard that.  Of course she's got energy!  She's a doberman!  Stupid people tick me off!  Do your homework!  oops! sorry, getting a bit worked up.  :-[

She's a complete diva that announces her arrival everytime when she steps out the back door.  lol  We're taking her shopping this morning so she can have everything she needs (and most of her wants) in her new home.

We're so happy about her!!  The teddy bear that lost is life to her isn't thrilled though.  lol  We look forward to getting to know all of the other doberkids and owners around here better.  I have a Q.  What food do you feed your doberbrat and how much?  Thank you for reading!

BTW, I was joking about fooling my hubby about the dog. ;)  It wouldn't be fair to either of them to not be honest.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll forget to tell my hubby that option.  He'll start thinking it's going to be a hairy dog (which he doesn't like) and tell me no.  lol  If it was going to be long-haired, it already would be, why worry him about it right?   ;D  Either way he was a sweetie.  Speaking of sweeties, I wish I lived close enough to take this one home.  Isn't that the cutest face?!

Unfortunately the only GD up for adoption in my area needs to be in an adult only home. :(

Kelly (sorry, I'm in a rambling mood tonight apparently  :-[)

oops! I managed to delete my reply so I guess I'll try again.  lol  I can't swear to it since I could stay long but he seemed to be closer to 24-26in.  That's one reason I was wondering if they were right about his age.  His color was black and white with some black spots in the white area.  I could be seeing dane where there is none because I would LOVE to have one but even it he's not I'm still tlking to hubby about getting him (or the oversized "black lab" with HUGE feet) tomorrow.  ;D  He was such a calm sweetie which you wouldn't expect for a dog his size.  He was a little hairy for a dane but not enough that I would call him long haired.  More like a fluffy version of a short haired dog.  lol

Kelly (hopefully I won't delete my reply again  lol)

How tall a 3 month old puppy would be?  I saw a mixer at the pound today and they said he was 3 months (I'm not sure they were right and I don't know what breed they were claiming him to be but they are almost never right) and a GD is the only dog I could think of that would be THAT big when he was a puppy.  I can't remember much about his face because we had to leave fast (another dog was being mean to my son) but I know I've seen his coloring in some GDs.  Hopefully I'll get a better look at him when I go back tomorrow.  Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.

I would love to join a SAR team (or even go it alone as needed) when I get my dog.  I can't think of anything better to do with our time than to save lives.  I don't know where to get started though.  I may have to settle for obedience.  Not so bad I guess.  :)

I just want to say a big THANK YOU!!! for posting this info and for having a website about it all.  I would have likely become another victim if I hadn't read this info first.  They were one of the rescues I saved.  I hate to think what might have happened to my boys (7 & 2 yrs) if I had adopted from them and gotten a bad dog.  You're doing a great thing.  Keep it going!
