General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Dog Fancy question
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:12:09 pm »
Okay, I know this is a HUGE shot in the dark, but has anyone been a subscriber to Dog Fancy since 2001 and still has 1 of that year's issues?  :-\

I just need someone to look at something in it if they do, so if someone has it, please let me know! Thank you so much!
*crosses fingers hard*

lol, thanks guys! Yep, they get pretty darn excited when I come home from college.  :) I'm just as excited to see them too! Zoey turns 3 next Monday, I can't believe how fast time has gone!

And Dolly's freckly muzzle and Zoey's pink nose get lots of kisses, I promise you.  ;) :-*

Yayyy, I went home this weekend so I got to take some new pics of my girls! Note these pictures are not usually what I like to shoot; I love taking pics of them outside, running around and playing, buuuuut this is what I had to work with; 2 lazy dogs!  I'm loving the up close and personal shots of them though, lol! (and please excuse our un-orderly house; Mom is painting right now, and you can see her doing so in one of the videos, lol!)

Dolly says, "Hi guys!"

Zoey- "Wa'z uuuuuuuppp?!"

This is her mom, I love you but why did you quit petting me? face

Sounds like Hips, Elbows, and Eyes are pretty much standard to any breeding. If I bred, it would probably be a larger breed, no idea what one though; I love all the big dogs!

I'm going to do some research on thyroid testing. I definitely agree that's important too.

What about hearing? What does BAER stand for? I usually see that as the standard hearing test most breeders do.

What age should the testing be done at, and for larger dogs, how old should the dog be before it is bred? Is it different for male versus female?

Both my dogs are spayed, so I won't be breeding dogs any time soon (and by soon, I mean within the next like 10 years!) but I'm interested in maybe breeding dogs someday.

If I were to get a female or male from good show lines, healthy, meets the breed standard, and were to show that dog as well, what are the minimum health tests you recommend getting done on the sire or dam before breeding?

(not only breeders can answer this question! if you were to get a puppy from a breeder, what tests would you want the parents to have had done on them?)

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Re: Leo needing home in SW Missouri

This dog may very well be purebred but the owner just incorrect on the weight because I do know of a Leonberger breeder in this exact town (it's only 90 minutes away from me). And since Leo breeders are so rare around here, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'd love to take him, but there is just no way.  :( Maybe I could transport if someone on here wanted him though.

Both girls here are spayed. I knew I'd get Dolly spayed, but Zoey I was considering not; that it, until we kept having loose dogs get in our yard! That did it for me! They both got spayed the same day at 18 months old.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Is your dog spayed or neutered?
« on: February 20, 2008, 08:27:37 am »
Just curious, not asking for any real reason! I put the max number of times each user can vote as 4 (well, I did, but I don't know if it worked or not!  ??? ), that way, those of you with a multiple dog crew can answer for at least 4 of your dogs.

Oh well, since it didn't work, I guess just answer the question based on one of your dogs...pick one.  :D

Well, we do things just a little different. We were able to let the dogs come inside and sleep all night (not in a crate) without supervision and not messing anything up when they turned around 2 or so. But it depends from dog to dog, I agree. Last weekend was the first weekend that I was able to let them sleep inside and actually go sleep in my own bed too! Usually I sleep on the couch right next to them just in case. But they are such good girls now!  :)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Ear infections
« on: February 19, 2008, 06:24:16 am »
Thanks so much guys. I'll try everything you said. Dolly doesn't seem to be in any pain from the infections, but we gotta get them gone! Thanks again!

lol, you'd be amazed at the number of Saints whose names begin with B!

Sorry, I don't have any great name suggestions! I usually end up picking names out of movies or books!  :D

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Ear infections
« on: February 18, 2008, 12:14:15 pm »
Dolly is on antibiotics for ear infections in both ears currently. I just had the vet re-fill the meds on Saturday because the infections came back. We finished a 2 week course of antibiotics about 2 weeks ago, and the infections seemed to be gone. But I guess we were wrong. Anyway, my question is this. We've been doing ear drops every day to keep the ears clean, which is working, but the infections still came back. How can we get rid of them for good? Obviously antibiotics aren't effective forever, so any tips?

Awww, Lyn, he's adorable! Congratulation s! I know you'll figure out the perfect name for him! So cute!

We went with 1.5 inch on both girls. I thought about the 2 inch for Dolly, but I'm glad I choose the smaller one. It would've been too big for her.
