Newfoundland Dog Mix

Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO HAVE A BIG, BEAUTIFUL TEDDY BEAR OF A BOY?!?!? Our Baxter is a wonderful, well-mannered fellow! This poor boy was found as a stray wondering the streets, and he's not completely out of danger yet - so we are hoping against hope that someone can step in and take this sweet guy under their wing ASAP! It's big, black dogs like Baxter that get overlooked while their little counterparts get snapped up. Yet, they have just as much heart and even MORE love to give within those big, cuddly bodies that would give anything to keep your toes warm and stretch out on your porch on summer days.

Looking for an animal that's friendly and faithful? Baxter's got puppy dog eyes that beg for a walk or a simple rub down. He loves people and would be overjoyed if he were the only dog in the home or with another dog that is playful and won't challenge his kingly status :) Baxter would be best in a home without cats or bunnies - but where he can give you the unconditional love and loyalty that only a dog can - ESPECIALLY A GORGEOUS NEWFOUNDLAND! It's not often that one of these special animals are up for rescue, but they need your help just as much as any other homeless dog.

Baxter is house-trained, neutered and behaves like quite the gentleman in the home. He's between 1-2 years old, roughly 36" tall from the ground when standing, and is about 100lbs. of love, love, love!!! Baxter is smart and follows orders well :) He is absolutely impossible to resist in person. His lovely fur is just the tip of his beauty - which goes beyond the outside right to the core of his canine heart. The pictures do not do this chap justice, so come meet him for yourself! Baxter is ready to find his forever home.

SO LET'S REVIEW... A HOUSETRAINED, NEUTERED, UP TO DATE, YOUNG, HEALTHY, LOVEABLE, WELL-BEHAVED, BEAUTIFUL, CUDDLY, FUN FELLOW!! BAXTER IS WAITING FOR YOU!!! APPLY TODAY!!!!

FEEL FREE TO EMAIL YOUR QUESTIONS:

Send all inquiries to: info@almosthomeanimalrescue.org

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

- We ask for your patience as we review your application. Almost Home receives several each day and cannot respond to every one individually.

- Approved applicants are based on best fit, not first submitted. ALMOST HOME RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY APPLICANT, so please understand that it is within our discretion to make those decisions on behalf of our animals.

- OUR ADOPTION EVENTS ARE VERY BUSY so please keep that in mind if you intend to come. You should expect to spend some time there if you are sincerely interested in one of our animals (since we have limited manpower and many visitors to screen).

-Due to space limitations, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE RESCUE YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WILL BE AT THE ADOPTION EVENT (we are oftentimes saving up to 80 animals at a time!) We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

- We ask that you DO NOT contact Premier Pet Supply about our animals. They are kind enough to provide space for our adoption events, but are not involved with our rescue work.

- If a rescue is "PENDING" it is currently in the process of being adopted, but may be available in the future if it is not finalized.

- Keep in mind that we depend 100% on volunteers, most of whom have full-time jobs, so we ask for your understanding as we do the best we can in the endless effort to find homes for these deserving animals!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE DOG!

Newfoundland Pictures / Bear and her new friend
« on: September 19, 2006, 03:51:19 pm »
Bear's dog walker took her out with Reuben last week (he looks like a doodle?) They had a blast -- dancing, playing in mud puddles -- what a pair! She has another playdate tomorrow!

Newfoundland Pictures / Walk in Forest = Bear gets new hairdo
« on: September 17, 2006, 02:27:25 pm »
Well a fun run in the Forest ended in us sadly having to clip of Bear's flowing leg/butt hair and fluffy ears :) She ran into a mess of burrs and I tried my best to get them out with oil and conditioner but there were 100s!! I hope her hair grows back quickly -- she looks a bit goofy!

We have gotten a dog walker for Bear as I am soon to start my long days in the hospital. She is great! Her and Bear are having a blast swimming and playing in the park. Here are some pics from one of their walks -- she looks so happy in the last one :)

Newfoundland Pictures / Bear's First Camping Trip
« on: August 22, 2006, 02:03:49 pm »
We just got back from a few days camping with Bear, we went to Sharbot Lake just north of Kingston ON. We had a nice waterfront site and there was a decent little dog beach area. Bear was a little unsettled at first at the campsite -- looking at us with those sad eyes "Where is my couch?!" but had a great time chasing chipmunks and looking for fishies in the lake. Here are some pics!

Newfoundland Pictures / BEAR IS ONE TODAY :)
« on: August 14, 2006, 02:08:14 am »
Today is Bear's first birthday. Here are some pics from her Bday party we had yesterday. She had a great time with the family and friend's kids!

I am seriously considering hiring a dog walker for Bear as I am entering a heavy year of clerkship at med school and Chris is unable to leave work to come home every day to let out Bear for a bit at lunch. She has been ok left alone in the house for 5+ hours but I am sad thinking of her being left alone for a full work day.

What are people's thoughts on dog walkers? I have contacted a dog walking service who says they are a "Certified Canine Specialist" -- not sure what this credential means.

Newfoundland Discussions / Bear's $40 ++ dinner
« on: July 05, 2006, 08:12:43 pm »
Well tonight while her Daddy was having a nap Bear decided to chew his wallet for dinner. She totally destroyed it...took each card out and nicely chewed a visa, license, various other cards and polished off two $20 bills. We cannot leave anything in the reach of our little innocent looking Bear, she is chewing everything in sight!!

Newfoundland Pictures / Sleepy Bear on the couch
« on: June 02, 2006, 08:02:16 pm »
Oh my little girl has become quite the independent, now sleeping on her own at night on the couch instead of in our bed :( I miss her cuddles but she does wake us up every morning by jumping on the bed and giving lots of kisses or shall we say a face wash!

Here's her favourite sleeping position.

Bear had her first real swim yesterday  :) Chris and I braved the chilly waters to get her in...a little push to get her started and then she was paddling around.

Newfoundland Discussions / Turning brown?!
« on: May 15, 2006, 11:53:42 am »
Hi!
Bear was a jet black puppy but now as her hair is growing and the sun has come out she is turning quite brown. Will this be her true colouring or does their hair change with the seasons?!

Newfoundland Pictures / Bear's 2nd Dip

Bear had some more fun in the lake this weekend...the geese tempted her but she still has yet to swim

Newfoundland Pictures / Bear;s first "Swim"
« on: April 27, 2006, 09:08:57 pm »
She was hesitant at first but then loved going for sticks we threw out in the lake. She would not go out deep enough to swim though. I suppose I will have to wait til it warms up and I can go in with her!

« on: April 22, 2006, 02:28:58 am »
Hi
I have a newf cane corse mix from a farm SW of Hamilton Ontario. Just wondering if any of bear's siblings or relatives are out there and interested on how they have turned out!
