1  Shepherds / German Shepherd Discussions / Re: Oh My Goodness!!! « on: February 05, 2007, 07:53:24 PM » I think I may go the groomer route.  The thought of that much dog hair wafting around my house doesn't appeal to me.  The shedding blade works great but I think we need a more aggressive approach. 2  Shepherds / German Shepherd Discussions / Re: New to owning GSD « on: February 05, 2007, 07:51:21 PM » We have a GSD mix and I have to say that he is the most loyal, loving, attentive dog I have ever had.  He's also the most work, too.  Because they are soooooo smart, they need to be trained.  They also need a job, something to keep them occupied, or they will become destructive.  Dell doesn't like Kongs, what the trainer suggested, so we've had to find other ways.  If you're interested in Search and Rescue, google "search and rescue" and add your region or hometown.  It will bring up places where you can get training as well as clubs.  You might also check into agility training.  High energy dogs do well here. Good luck and make sure she gets enough exercise.

Why yes, I AM a drama queen.  Why do you ask?

5  Shepherds / German Shepherd Discussions / Re: Oh My Goodness!!! « on: February 05, 2007, 07:36:31 PM » I have been wracking my brain trying to remember if he's been fed anything other than his ususal Canidae with an occasional cheese stick treat and there is nothing.  He isn't itching and doesn't seem to be uncomfortable.  there are no hot spots and he's not acting unusual or sick.  I know shepherds experience blow out a couple of times a year so I wasn't too concerned but thought I would see if there are any GSD owners experiencing the same thing.

7  BPO General Forum / General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: My Sister Just Moved To Seattle « on: February 03, 2007, 03:25:32 PM » I live about 8 miles from Kent.  There is one dog park in Kent but, and this is really weird, there is no fence around it.  It wouldn't take anything for Dell to sprint out of there and I wouldn't be able to catch him.  If her dog is well trained, she shouldn't have any problems there In Federal Way, there is a decent dog park, IF they've cleaned up the pond (and they were supposed to in September).  The water there was making dogs sick.  Fortunately we stopped going before Dell got sick. The park we go to is about a twenty minute drive for us but it's 10 acres of fully fenced, well maintained dog park.  Misbehavior is not tolerated and aggressive dogs are strictly prohibited.  The regulars there make sure the rules are enforced.  There's a section for smaller dogs as well.  Well worth the drive. 8  Mixed Breeds / Mixed Breed Discussion / Re: Broken Toe « on: February 03, 2007, 03:13:43 PM » Wow.  The vet didn't even splint it or anything?  When Dell broke his toe, there were x-rays and splints and an e-collar and bedrest and the whole 9 yards.  Was kind of expensive!  Dell wrecked two e-collars in a matter of two days and managed to strip the splint off by about day 4.  Yes, he healed just fine, has no limp.  Sure wish I'd had your vet!

10  Shepherds / German Shepherd Discussions / Oh My Goodness!!! « on: February 02, 2007, 05:12:53 PM »     Is anyone else experiencing a coat blowout at this time of year?  With my grooming blade, I just took enough hair off Dell to make another dog!  My carpet is covered in hair, my clothes are covered in hair, my hair is covered in hair!  It's driving me crazy! This is the first time I've seen his hair come out like this.  Does shepherd hair usually come out in clumps?  Maybe I'll collect the hair and have it spun into yarn.  didn't someone here have a hat made out of their dog's fur?
