Bills & Other Legislative Acts / Re: What is going on with PETA?
« on: March 11, 2005, 10:20:46 am »
I know a bill was defeated in Illinois earlier this year but has been re-entered under a differenct name & I think will include many states if it passes. The dogs who are currently being labeled as "vicious & mean" (that I remember) are Siberian Huskies, St. Bernards, German Shepards, Great Danes & Pit Bulls. There are more but I can't remember exactly who they are. You can see the complete list on the AKC website. Essentially PETA wants these dogs to be labeled with a sign in the owner's yard as vicious, make the dog wear a big orange tag on their collar reading vicious, making the owner pay a yearly vicious dog fee & will make the owner spay/neuter the vicious dog as soon as it is born. The bill also says that they don't care if it is a show dog or not.  >:(
It is an awful bill and we all need to join forces to ensure our beloved big dogs don't get taken away from us slowly.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: This is so cool!

Okay Heel Biter...though the pictures are cute and all....I think that Wally Big Dog said it best when he wrote "i think dogs should be bigger then your neighbors pussy cat."  :) FYI, I think think that 4.2 lbs. is the average weight of a big dog's paw.  :)

Breeding Questions & Information / Re: How did you find your breeder?
« on: March 09, 2005, 02:15:26 pm »
My husband found ours through research and referral. He filled out many packets of paperwork to make sure we were qualified & was chosen to get a puppy from one breeder. Unfortunately that breeder had a problem with the puppy we were supposed to get, so she referred him to our current breeder. It worked out for the best because she is the best breeder (IMO) in the world! We love her and still keep in contact frequently.

Wow..what a wonderful story of triumph and perserverance. It's sad to hear of the struggles she's faced so face in her young life. With your love and support I'm sure she'll live way far into old age.
Besides the pain meds, do you use any vitamins/supplements? I know that with our Bear they do help to keep his joints lubricated. He too may have dysplasia in his front legs, but since he is still growing and hasn't had any problems in the past few months I'm hopeful that the pain he had was just a bout with natural growing pains.  ;)

I couldn't agree more. We are planning on beginning some "real" waterwork when the weather gets a little nicer so that I am not freezing in the water.  :)
