oops sorry... i worked at the doggie den... my boss had relations with the owner or something like that...not relations sorry... friends. The distributor who came to check the supplies also had to give us a handout saying that they changed... but soon you will see wellness in grocery stores.  My boss called the company and asked where they got all the products from and they wouldn't answer her, they used to come from Lowell MA, but not any more.  They don't know where it comes from.

if you look at the website of OMH it says they still make it... which is true...but they don't get the ingredients from MA anymore... they get it from other companies in order to make more profit from the food. I will find out more for you.. i know a website called thedoggieden.n et has an article on it... i used to work there...i know it is legit.

Great Dane Discussions / Calcium and Great danes
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:16:50 am »
sorry for posting so much i am just excited i finally met some compitant people here verses the rest of the world.  Now i know that you are not suppose to give GD's any extra calcium because of growth issues, although she is going to be a small dane due to the fact of her disabilities (says the vet). In order for her to grow more (her sisters were 34 inches at 6 months, she was 28inches) can i give her calcium or no? she is rather skinny at 105, but she won't eat more than 4 cups a day. I would like her to grow to her full potential...bu t is calcium all that bad?

That is the thing... she did not pee while crated... I picked her up in cherryfield maine which is 5 hours away...and she never peed once on the way back to my house....she does hold it for long periods..when let out she peed... she is a camel in that factor... that is how i know she can hold it.  Someone at work told me perhaps it is an attention thing, but believe me... there isnt one person who doesn't pay attention to her...again this is the third time... in 2 months... not too bad for a pup who had a hard life. But i just would like it final...from being free off lead i mean it is sort of like she has learned to pee anywhere ... because usually it is outside and wonderful. Could she think the same inside... like she forgot she has to hold it? I know she can... that isn't a factor... it is just why is she fine when we are gone and then she will pee right in front of me? Is it a behavioral issue or more of she doesn't really know...even though she has been fine for two months and only 2 other times she did that.  The other two happened on a weekend... i can only blame myself for all of this, except why can't she wait a little longer till i get the leash? I think behavioral...b ut i don't know.  She isn't usually in a crate in the afternoon because she doesn't do anything when we are gone. So she is free in the house... just when we are there...(she is confined to one room)

Food Discussion & Information / Wellness a scam

Hello, i am new here and saw a lot of people talking about wellness...it used to be a great food made here in MA, although they changed manufactures so now it is made by the same people who make pedigree. The food may have  a high rateing on food sources, although they refuse to tell you where the meat is actually from. They end up no listing all ingredients (from what i am told) so just beware

hmm... i am sure i can figure something out.  It is funny when she does bark... since she is night blind..she barks at inadimit objects and people. Well actually she can see at night if there are no lights...but when there are lights she can't see well.  Or she will think she hears something... or the floor is vibrating... but i do have to say..it is nice being able to clean or whatever and she doesn't wake up from a nap..lol.

yeah.. i did look and came out with people clothing...and if i look under xlg i get girth of 12 inches or it is 15 inches too short. I guess i will make her clothing... you know i should open up a shop just for giant/large breeds.. make big, cute dresses like they have for the little ones....at least for white dogs....  Well thanks for all your help... I will reduce the water  in take...and watch her more closely... oh oh oh... how can i get her to bark? She doesn't bark...there are no signs that she has to pee.. poop yes.... pee no.... oh i could use bells...althou gh she can't hear it... how about a push light? you think that would work?

remembering a 105lbs dane is a puppy is a hard thing..but under that huge body is  a p-brain who is a sponge. I figured it was weird that all day she is fine and then in the AM she goes potty. Then again... this is only the third time... so i am not really worried... just irritated.  Then again she does have to make mistake to learn that it isn't ok. Thank you for all your help. ALSO while i have all of you... do you know any place online or something that i can get T-shirts for her? She has sunblock on...  but that also means that anyone who pets her...includin g the comforter has sunblock too...so anyone know of any T-shirts or outfits for Giant dogs???

Yes Jaz is fixed...at 5.5 - 6 months old    >:(  it shouldn't have been till later though. But oh well.

When we get home and let her out... she definitly pees and poos outside. No mistakes inside when we are not home..only in front of us. I would limit her water except when i do she drinks a whole bowl like i depriving her and i don't want to deal with bloat.  She is in a crate at home now... starting from square one again... so no water now...but the temps here in MA are skyrocketing.. . 102 right now.. so i cant deprive her of it.

thank you... i got her at 7 months old. she had 5 homes and then rescued from the breeder and put in a shelter. She was at the shelter for 2 months...2 months at the breeder....and 2 months in 5 different homes...poor girl, and now and foreever with me. She is the most mellow, sweet, happy, lovey..cant say enough good things about her. The breeder kept her in a crate for 18 hours a day so therefore she put in the shelter.  So all and all she is great...and she LOVES TO SWIM!!!! I will try that cranberry pill though...any bad things that can happen out of it?

I know she doesn't have a UTI (already got that checked) , She is great when we are gone. I do reward her when she goes outside, we play and everything. It seems as though it is really hard in the mornings for her. Her pee is HUGE... like a waterfall. She is 31 inches and 105 lbs. I guess i will start rewarding her in a different way...... This morning i went to the bathroom...she came in and peed too.... i interupted her by startling her and then she walked while peeing over to me and continued to pee.... if i interupt her going... she just pees as she walks. No joke...at least 4-5  cups come out of her in the AM. Her last outing is at 9 pm. My husband gets up at 2 am. to go to work, so she goes out then too, and then at 620 when i wake up. So she goes and goes and goes. It isn't like we make her hold it too long. If she can hold it for 9 hours when we are at work, how come she can't hold it when we are home?

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / hello i am new and have a question
« on: August 02, 2006, 07:05:41 am »
Hello, i am new to the board and i have a great dane puppy. She is a deaf, merelyquin 9 months old. She is great could not ask for anything more ;D but... one problem is that she is housetrained.. . doesn't go when we are not present..altho ugh when we are present she will pee a huge waterfall in front of me looking right at me. She doesn't ask to go out, i just take her out when i feel she has to go.  This is the third time in the three months that i have had her (twice this week) On weekend she does it too. Any suggestions on why she does this? She is great for 9 hours we are working..not one mistake, but when we are home she seems to have no problem going. It is not a submissive thing... i take her out all the time..everyhou r when home....she is fine when we are away for hours...just not when we are home.. any help??????? ??? ??? ???
