Neapolitan Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Rotten influences...
« on: August 23, 2006, 07:19:17 am »
Ever since she was a puppy, I've been very strict on not letting Laika jump up on people. I've always known that could be a huuuuge problem when she gets to be full-grown. Well, I don't know where she picked it up, but yesterday I grabbed her leash from the wall and instead of sitting down like she's been trained to do, she jumped on me. I'm on 5', so when she jumped up, her paw caught me right on the side of my face. I don't have a black eye, but one of her claws got me right underneath my eye so I have a really wide (since her claws are huge) red mark under my eye, so it looks like a black eye. This...is a little embarrassing  :P When someone asks me how I got the black eye, and I tell them it's from my dog, that's like screaming "abuse excuse!" My boyfriend REALLY didn't want to go to the dog park last night because he was sure people would think he hit me! Ugh...damn dog!!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Timber wolf?
« on: August 20, 2006, 06:14:13 pm »
Okay, I didn't actually see this, but a girl at the dog park said a couple nights ago a guy brought in a dog/wolf that was 9/10 timber wolf and 1/10 german shepard. This is the first time I've ever heard of this. She said the guy seemed to have pretty good control over it, because every time it'd greet another dominant dog, it'd snarl and bark and pin it on the ground, but the guy could call him off. Is this a popular thing or something? How do they keep the ratio of 9/10 timber wolf and 1/10 german shepard? The lady said that you could tell right off the bat that it wasn't any other dog, and the guy was really proud of it.

Food Discussion & Information / White Bites!!!
« on: August 18, 2006, 12:16:32 pm »
Okay, we got our package of White Bites in the mail today, and I'm very impressed! Here's the low-down on what they are: White Bites™ treats are safe and digestible, extremely tasty, baking soda infused oral care dog treats that your dog will treasure as they clean teeth and freshen breath.

When I first heard about them, I thought "Yeah, right, Laika's breath will DEFEAT them!!" I gave her and Kingsley each one, and at first, they didn't really know what to do with them. They both dropped them on the ground and just sniffed them for awhile. But as soon as they took that first bite, they were hooked! Laika was chewing hers so quickly she worked up a little froth with it! Good thing it's made with baking soda so I can tell myself it's CLEANING my carpet  ;) When they finished, I did some quick smell-tests and teeth-tests. Laika's breath was definitely improved; it smelled more like baking soda than rotting carcasses! I'm 99% sure that after one more her breath will *hopefully* be non-toxic! After just one, Kingsley's breath problems were gone, but even better, his teeth looked great! Kingsley's teeth get tarter build-up really bad, and I admit, I'm not great on remembering to brush his teeth every week. But after this treat, his teeth were whiter than I've ever seen them!! Sooooo here's the website for them! I'm hoping to see them in stores soon! I would definitely buy them!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Attack of the water hose!
« on: August 16, 2006, 01:05:14 pm »
Oh, my beautiful puppies. Earlier tonight I decided to water a couple plants I had out back, so I turned the hose on. It has a spray nozzle connected to it. I picked it up by the nozzle, and the hose fell off! It started shooting water in all directions and whizzed off into the yard before I could grab it. Don't worry though, because Kingsley heard my yell of surprise. And as soon as he saw what I was running toward, he grabbed the hose and took off, while it was still shooting water. He thought it was great fun, and I swear he was intentionally turning just right to spray me everytime I got close. I finally gave up chasing him and just went and turned the water off. As soon as the water shut off, he dropped the hose and walked away like nothing had every happened. Thankfully, the neighbors behind us (whom I've never met) witnessed the whole ordeal and got a great big chuckle out of it.

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Komondor pup in Fort Worth, TX
« on: August 16, 2006, 10:52:24 am »
I don't know how in the world a Komondor pup ended up in Texas, but the humane society down here has a seven-month old female. She's absolutely beautiful! It looks like they shaved her, but when her coat grows in she'll be a beautiful dog.

Neapolitan Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Neo exercise
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:52:48 am »
I know that Neos aren't supposed to get much exercise when they're puppies, and so far I think we've done really well keeping Laika from getting too much exercise, but she's almost 8 months and has hit an energy streak. I don't know what to do! She never stops running and playing and basically going crazy! She has waaaaaaay more energy than Kingsley, and he's an Aussie/Husky mix! When is it okay to start letting her get more exercise, because I just don't think I can keep her settled down.

So I made some popcorn tonight, but when I went to open the bag, I pulled a little too hard and spilled half the bag on the floor. I hollered at the dogs, but they turned their noses up at the popcorn. Weird, since they LOVE popcorn. So I swept it up and retreated to the study to get in some quality BPO time  ;) Pretty soon, Laika and Kingsley both came up and started begging for popcorn. So the popcorn that fell on the floor isn't good enough, but if it comes from the bag, they're all for it? Ugh, I think they're a bit spoiled!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / It's a mystery...
« on: August 11, 2006, 06:54:03 am »
I've got quite a mystery on my hands here. I went grocery shopping, and when I came home, the dogs are acting like they just got in MAJOR trouble. Nobody else is home, so it's not like my boyfriend yelled at them or anything. Laika flat out won't come near me. Everytime I walk into the room she sticks her tail between her legs and looks like I'm about to yell at her. Kingsley keeps coming up to me with his head bowed and licking my arm (he does that when he's in trouble and trying to suck up). I investigated the house, but nothings out of place that I can see, except for the kitchen. For some reason, there's sand all over the kitchen floor. Where the h*ll did they get ahold of sand? We don't have a doggy door, so they couldn't have gotten outside. I've been racking my brain, but I can't think of one place we'd have sand in the house. Hmmm....

Hi, new on this thing so I thought I'd say hello! Also, I can't seem to get my pictures to load. It keeps saying there's been an error. Anybody know if I'm doing something wrong?
