General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / It's a mystery...
« on: August 11, 2006, 06:54:03 am »
I've got quite a mystery on my hands here. I went grocery shopping, and when I came home, the dogs are acting like they just got in MAJOR trouble. Nobody else is home, so it's not like my boyfriend yelled at them or anything. Laika flat out won't come near me. Everytime I walk into the room she sticks her tail between her legs and looks like I'm about to yell at her. Kingsley keeps coming up to me with his head bowed and licking my arm (he does that when he's in trouble and trying to suck up). I investigated the house, but nothings out of place that I can see, except for the kitchen. For some reason, there's sand all over the kitchen floor. Where the h*ll did they get ahold of sand? We don't have a doggy door, so they couldn't have gotten outside. I've been racking my brain, but I can't think of one place we'd have sand in the house. Hmmm....

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Knots
« on: August 09, 2006, 04:36:37 am »
I know this sounds pretty stupid, but for Kingsley, I actually use conditioner. I stick him in the tub and just start working conditioner through his knots and eventually they loosen up enough for me to get a brush through them. Plus, then he's so silky and soft for a few days!!

I think I figured out why Kingsley's been having the runs. I checked our water filter after reading this, and it needed a new filter...prett y badly, too. So I'm going to get a new filter tomorrow and hopefully it'll work!

Oh my...I was just at the dog park saying "I love collies!" Except for the HUGE paws, this little guy looks almost exactly like the little guy I was admiring!

I use Nutro Max and I thought it was going great, been using it for about a year now, but all of a sudden Kingsley has started to have VERY watery stools. About a week and a half ago he started having to go out at night. This is the dog who usually only pees and poops maybe twice a day. He even had a VERY watery accident on the floor a couple times because I didn't let him out in time. It was so watery that I thought it was throw-up until I saw his backside. I got really worried and made an appointment with the vet, but she wanted to wait a couple days to see if it cleared up on its own, and it did. Or so I thought. The last couple of days it hasn't been quite as watery but it's still pretty much completely liquid. She said it was probably just a sensitive stomach, so I switched him to Nutro Max Sensitive Stomach. But why would he all of a sudden develop a sensititve stomach? Sorry, this is all pretty gross and you guys probably don't want to hear it, I'm just really worried.

That was hilarious! I completely sympathize. Sometimes when I'm telling someone a story about my dogs, they look at me like I'm crazy.

Rottweiler Discussions / Re: Did you know that Dogs Bark?

Okay, I may just be really pessimistic, but it really sounds like that guy and his boy were planning on getting you (and your dogs) in major trouble. The fact that he came WITH a 2x4 sounds like he was definitely expecting something. And it sounds like the little boy was coached into instigating something with the dogs. Thank goodness your dogs are better than that. At this point, I wouldn't feel badly about anything. They've already gone about it all the wrong way. Have any of them EVER talked to you about your dogs before? UGH this is why I hate these damn communities. People want everything to be their way, and they think they can order everyone else around.

Neapolitan Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / Re: Neopolitan mastiffs

It all depends on the dogs and, more importantly, the owner. Supposedly females are the dominant one in this breed, although you'd never know it based on my Laika. She's the most submissive dog I've ever owned. A friend of mine has her sister, though, and she is very dominant in play time with other dogs.

Everyone told us Laika was small for her age too. Then when she hit about four months she had a huge growth spurt and nobody was saying that anymore!!

I figured out the pictures, so Kingsley and Laika are now visible to all! Kingsley's my Aussie/Husky mix, and Laika's my Neo. Haha...I just realized I said they're MY dogs...when in actuality, I'm just THEIR human. *sigh* Whaddaya gonna do?

Hi, new on this thing so I thought I'd say hello! Also, I can't seem to get my pictures to load. It keeps saying there's been an error. Anybody know if I'm doing something wrong?
