« on: November 14, 2006, 04:24:12 am »
i just went onto petco.com and they have their clothing on sale for 13.49, so i was wondering, will a X-Large - 26-30" Neck To Tail fit a dane?  i'm going to measure diesel tonight, i just wanted to get some input on sizing for him, and if anyone knows how good of quality petco clothes are?

i know how fast big paws grow, so i thought this would be a neat idea to throw out. don't know how many people live in this area, though.

Female Great Dane

Hi!

I am fostering a female great dane. She is approximately 6-7 years old. She is a WONDERFUL girl! She is completely house trained, and is very happy to share a bed with you :-) She will lead you to the door when she is ready to go out, and will wag her tail at you and lead you to her dish if she's hungry. She is merle (dark blue/grey with darker spots) and very very beautiful. She could stand to gain a few pounds. She has had bloodwork done each year and been found to be in perfect health, although she is due for her bloodwork and shots now in order to be up to date.

She is very sensitive to her size and careful not to knock you over, get in your way, or anything. She knows a few (but VERY helpful) tricks as well :-)

She LOVES to go on walks (but no jogging, jogging with large breeds is very hazardous to their joints). She gets along great with other dogs AND cats, she is great with kids, and is happy to just be with you and give you kisses :-) A $50 adoption fee applies for her to go to a great home!

Please email me if you'd like more information about this girl!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / dane "rescue"
« on: November 13, 2006, 05:19:00 am »
ok, so, occasionally i like to look at adoptable danes just to see their colors, etc.  so i go onto this site, looking for more information on a cruelty case, ok?  they have a dane, RESCUE, they are charging $1000.00 for.  that's right, $1000.00!  their reasoning?  "Because I am a rare blue Dane with cropped ears that stand the rescue is charging a adoption fee of $1000.00, if you do not live in our adoption area I can be shipped for an additional fee."  this is supposed to be a RESCUE??

the pic just came up with a "stuffed animal," is this their idea of a joke?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / atlanta BPO'ers?
« on: November 13, 2006, 03:11:30 am »
does anyone live in/around atlanta, and know of any dog-friendly places other than piedmont park?  i went to sweetwater creek park and wasn't impressed at all.  we all went (me hubby two kids and axle for an experimental dog) for the second time yesterday, to find that the leash law is very much ignored, and had an australian shepherd running up our butts constantly, off leash.  this wouldn't be a problem, until you put in that we have two kids (1 and 3) we're lugging over about a mile (or at least it seemed that long) of the "path" that we took that just so happened to be a pile of rocks following the river... literally.  about 5 miles, and 3 hours later we came out of the park VERY tired, very aggravated, and my butt hurt from axle snapping at that dog going up our butts and pulling me off balance on the rocks.  THWAP went my butt on the hardest rocks i've ever felt, about 10 times over.  axle doesn't typically act like this, but the owner was over 20 ft away, and the male dog was casually walking... with us.  i'd like to find somewhere new to play that at least has level ground and not a large concentration of over bearing dogs.  thanks!

Great Dane Discussions / satin ball question
« on: November 09, 2006, 11:18:43 pm »

??? ??? ??? ??? ???
i saw on here the recipe for satin balls.  i wanted to ask about it, to make sure i don't mess it up!  i'd like to try it out as an occasional treat, and also when my dogs go on strike because they decide they don't like the food i just bought 80lbs of ::), this is when i have problems keeping weight on them.  this is the recipe i saw

10# hamburger meat
1 jar wheat germ
1 lg box of oatmeal (uncooked)
1 1/4 Cup vegetable oil
10 eggs
10 sm pkgs unflavored gelatin
1 1/4 Cup unflavored molasses
A pinch of salt
1 lg box Total cereal (2lb's)
(You may also add a pinch of garlic powder to add flavor)

my questions are, it says to feed raw?  meat, and eggs?  is this safe, with all the contaminants (e-coli, etc) that have been popping up?  also, i don't buy a few of the items listed, can i buy wheat germ and molasses at walmart?  thanks!

Great Dane Discussions / big dog, with no courage
« on: November 08, 2006, 12:52:52 pm »
i have a question for all of you.  i've had big dogs for years, but i recently rescued my first great dane, who started out knee high (could pick him up with one hand and carry forever with no probs) and in 2 1/2 months is now waist high (almost 6 months old now).  i got him from a "breeder" in tennessee, who kept him outside, in a pen, and told me he had "never left the property" which is now causing tremendous problems as you can imagine.  he is very scared... of everything.  garbage cans, the tv, when you spray a cleaner, the vaccum, etc.  he has destroyed all my furniture from running, even though i have tried with all i have to hold him still.  he is still horribly underweight (wish i had pics, hope to soon, i lost my cam. charger) but has crushed my coffee table, eaten the door frames and pillows, etc from running, which has forced me to crate him whenever i leave the room to take a shower, or clean.  i've even had my hubby try to hold him with me and it just makes things worst.  it takes ATLEAST two people to load him into a car, and it's nearly impossible to get him to leave our home.  to get him to go on a walk, i have to bring my other 2 large breeds, which i don't mind, but i don't want him to be so dependent that he can't go anywhere by himself (because of vet visits, etc).  he urinates, and deficates every time something new happens, and even though i've tried to get him around new things, it just isn't happening.  he flips out so bad i'm scared he will break a leg, as he has already jumped off of our 8 ft deck to get away when we dropped a bag of charcoal, and limped for days. recently our neighbors even mentioned that they hear him screaming when they're coming DOWN the road, not even at our house yet, if i'm gone.  does anyone have any suggestions, and do any of you know of the aromatherapy plug ins work for dogs with anxiety problems?  thanks!

Akita Pictures / introduction
« on: November 08, 2006, 12:39:16 pm »
i saw that everyone new introduced their pets.  i have 5 dogs (akita, akita/chow, great dane, and 2 pits) and just wanted to introduce us all!  pic is of my akita, axle at 1 (now between 130-150# at 3 depending on level of finickiness)  he's very weird, loves cats, dogs, and strangers, just has never liked my hubby, guess it's an attention thing!
