Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Aggression towards men!!
« on: February 11, 2007, 09:37:15 pm »
I got mY 3yr old St. Bernard, Rocky a little over a month ago. When he first came to our home, he showed some aggression towards my hubby. But after a day of Hubby giving him lots of love and attention, they have worked things out. Now Rocky adores hubby. Since then, many people have come to the house and met Rocky, he adores children and women but so far no men have come to the house. Till today! My FIL came to the house. My FIL came in the house, and started to say hello to rocky, and put his hand out for Rocky to sniff, and Rocky put it in his mouth, and growled! thankfully Rocky did not break any skin, but my FIL was freaked out! I didnt even realize that my FIL was the first strange male to come to our house since we had Rocky till after the fact. I am concerned that we are going to have this problem everytime a male comes to the house! He came to us from an elderly man, so this behavior baffles me! is there any way i can change this behavior???

all the suggestions are great, but you also might want to look into a medical problem as well. Especially if this is something out of the blue. Could be she is in pain, and the puppy could be hurting her, or just making her nervous, that she might. I had a dog do this, and come to find out it was arthritis in the spine, that was causing the behavior change. good luck!

Uggghhhhh...De signer breeds is one of the things that annoys me the most!!!! Just open up yur newspaper to the pets section! it is disgusting!!! Did you even notice, that the new Monopoly game has a labradoodle now, instead of the Scotty?? Gee, lets just make everyone want a designer breed!!there is even now, magazines specifically for Designer breeds!
If people want mutts they should just go to a shelter!
I have no issues what so ever with mutts, I have owned many, i have a problem with them being bred specificaly to be sold for tons of money, just because they have a cool name! >:(

the thing you can do with this type of wire fencing (we have the same fencing for our Bloodhound)is you dig a trench first, about 6-8 inches, and install the fencing, then return the earth over where the fencing was placed that way the fencing is partially underground, if your dog is an avid digger like mine, while you have the trench, and fence in place, before putting teh dirt back, you can evenly space some stakes, to help prevent a digger from getting the fence up. We used pieces of bent rebar, as they are heavy duty and hard to pull up!hope this helps!
