Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Question about potty training
« on: June 07, 2005, 03:17:43 pm »
Am I confusing my little Tekke by keeping some newspaper down in the kitchen even though I am training him to go potty outside?  I keep the paper down so if he makes an accident he will go on the paper but I don't want to confuse the little guy.  Any suggestions? :)

« on: June 01, 2005, 02:16:16 pm »
Here is my problem...  My 5 yr.old Dobie Ace is not a big fan of Tekke( our new addition).  Any suggestions on what I can do to help them become buddies?  I have only had Tekke for 2 1/2 weeks.  Tekke is 11 weeks old.  I never leave them alone together because I don't trust Ace with him.

So it looks as though we are going to keep Little Tekke.  He is paper trained so I was wondering what is the best way to go about training him to go outside.  Any suggestions?

So I have been puppy sitting two 10 week old pups for the past 2 weeks.  I gave the female away last night to a very nice couple so that leaves me to give away the male, and guess what?????????????????  My fiance wants to keep him.  What am I going to do?  I love him to death and I can definitely afford a third dog and we live in the country.  Am I crazy to agree with him?  What do you guys think?  I need some advice.  What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?  Please help ???

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Still busy
« on: May 25, 2005, 04:21:48 pm »
I still have 2 10 week old pups( Tekke and Daisy), life is so hectic.  My friends sister doesn't know if she wants them or not.  She moved out to Alberta with 4 dogs and she can't find a place to stay that will allow any dogs.  She is currently staying with my friend( her sis) in a mini home with 5 dogs and 2 cats, life is even more hectic there.  We are despereately trying to convice her to let me give the dogs away, I already have wonderful homes for both of them I just need the go ahead from her to let me give them away.

I desperately want my life to be back to semi normal :-\

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Busy, Busy, Busy

I haven't been on here much in the past few days :( I am so incredibly busy.  I am puppy sitting two 9 week old pups and boy are they a handful.  Along with my 2 dogs I have NO TIME for anything.  My friends sister was in a terribly abusive relationship and she finally decided to get out asap but the problem was that one of her 5 dogs had 4 pups and she didn't trust anyone to watch them but me so of course I volunteered( her boyfriend kept the other 2 pups), I was just glad that she was finally getting out of the relationship.  So that is how I acquired the puppy sitting job.  They are absolutely adorable but they sure are a handful and a half.

One of my dogs got porcupine quills yesterday and my other one just got over a bout of diarrhea, it was horrible.  So in order to keep the puppies from getting sick I had to keep Sasha out in the shop, she was not impressed to say the least.  Yesterday when my fiance came home from work and he was approaching the house he noticed a black dog on the side of the road and as he got closer he realized that it was our dog Sasha, she had sqeezed out of the shop door.  I am so glad she didn't not get hit by a car, so lucky.  Oh yeah and she somehow managed to slip out of her collar as well.  I forgot to mention that while she was in the shop she got a little bored and decided to chew the pull cord off of the lawn mower >:(.

That is all the excitement that has been going on here.  I am not sure how long I am going to have the pups maybe a few weeks, if I survive that long ???

Oh yeah I also forgot to mention that the night before last I woke up during the middle of the night to go to the washroom and as I returned I turned on the light to see which dog was sleeping with me and there was blood EVERYWHERE.  I frantictly started checking the dogs and it turned out to be Ace( my 5 yr.old doberman), he somehow cut his gum and it was bleeding like crazy.  So there we were at midnight rinsing out his mouth and trying to stop the bleeding.  It was still bleeding by morning but by the afternoon it had stopped and you wouldn't believe how small the cut was.  I was shocked that that much blood was coming from such a small cut but I was very relieved that it wasn't serious.

Okay I am ending here before the pups destroy my home.  I hope to have more time to chat with you guys in the near future :)

Mixed Breed Discussion / Mature size
« on: May 12, 2005, 02:27:49 pm »
I have a question.  I may be in charge of taking care of 2 puppies for a while.  The mother is Boxer/eng.staff and the sire is purebred boston terrier.  Approx. what size should they be when they are full grown?  I have a friend that may want one but she really would like to know how big he or she will be when they are full grown.  Any good guesses?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / I need advice
« on: May 10, 2005, 02:08:33 pm »
My friend is in an abusive relationship and it has become really bad so she is getting out asap.  She has 9 dogs, one of them just had 4 puppies.. anyway.. she is trying to go out west and she needs someone to watch the pups and the mother, they are only 5 weeks old.  I have never cared for pups before so if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.  It is not for certain that I will have to care for them but I would like to be prepared just in case.  Any advice would be muchly appreciated.  Thanks.
