yeah, it's just my bad luck that all the other dogs in this particular class are so well behaved..it sucks having the psycho dog that has to be put in a corner...but counting my blessings, at least she didn't poop or pee on the floor, and continued her streak of being totally friendly and interested in every human being who approaches her. hopefully things will get better with time, though, since her hissy fits about other dogs are the main reason we're in class in the first place.  thanks for the encouragement, it helps a lot

well, that was pretty much a fiasco.  within two minutes of walking in the door they had me put a gentle leader on her (should have brought mine but i was really hoping this class would eventually allow us not to use it) and put us behind a blind in the corner, and she STILL spent most of the class barking and freaking out.  she was the only dog in the class that was anywhere near that wild.  oh i wish i could get my hands on whoever had her before she went to the shelter, clearly this isn't entirely normal.  by the last fifteen minutes or so she finally calmed down a little, and the trainers seem very nice and patient, but oh god that was a long hour.  hopefully next week will be better

i use two balls to play fetch with heidi.  she is gradually getting the idea that when she drops one the other one goes flying.  "keep away" is still her favorite game, though

Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: UGH Harry Potter!!

oh my goodness, i am so excited about the last harry potter book coming out that i can hardly contain myself.  the movies are good but i am always sad when they leave out details, even though i know they have to or the movie would be a billion hours long.  i saw the movies for lord of the rings BEFORE i read the books, that was much better.

thanks all..she is not a puppy though, i got her from the shelter so she is over 1 1/2 year old now, and doesn't seem to have been socialized the best to other dogs..she has made several doggy friends in the neighborhood, but if she sees a dog she doesn't know she throws a hissy-that's really the part i'm worried about

heidi is my first dog, so i figured especially since she is a german shepherd i had better go to doggy school.  now i'm worried that she will cause so much chaos with the other dogs that we'll be kicked out of class. which wouldn't be the end of the world since she is learning very fast with just me, but it would be embarassing.  wish us luck!

thank you all for your replies.  I don't think she will gain much more, the vet says she is very healthy.  i think maybe she was just a little underweight from being at the shelter and all that stress.  she burns off a lot of nervous energy so the fact that she gained any weight at all was astounding to me! she is a sweet pretty girl and hopefully soon i will be able to get some pictures of her on her.  thanks again!
