He had a great time!  Next hike will probably be next weekend...and I will definitely be taking more pictures.  And yes, I am feeling much better now...I've never had pneumonia before...and honestly, I hope to never get it again...being sick for 2 1/2 months straight is horrible!  At least I am better for the beginning of the nice weather though.  :)

Yes!  My husband is outside mowing the lawn, and Cooper is sleeping so soundly through it!   :D

Norman is way too cute!  I didn't know they offered swim lessons for dogs?!

It was such a beautiful day today, we decided to take Cooper for his first mountain hike in Acadia National Park.  We've been taking Cooper to the local dog park since he was just a little pup...but recently we decided that he could probably handle some hikes in ANP.  Here are some pics from our hike up Day Mountain (only 583 feet tall, but definitely enough for Cooper and myself since I am still recovering from pneumonia).  I didn't get as many pictures as I would have hoped for...but the wonderful weather has just began and there are many more mountains to conquer!   ;D

Our 7 1/2 month old berner has a sensative stomach as well.  The only puppy food that he dives right into and finishes in record time is Science Diet Natural Brown Rice and Lamb.  He loves it.  We tried the Purina sensative stomach food, but he barely touched it and still was vomiting :-X.  Even the chicken and rice diet didn't help his stomach.  Science diet is a little more expensive than most, but it definitely worked for Cooper!

That is great to hear that there is no blockage!  :)  I hope he starts feeling better soon :)

How did Sammy's vet visit turn out?  Is he feeling any better???   ???

Last night was Cooper's first obedience class...I was worried that he was going to be the "class clown" and not pay attention to anything (he gets distracted very easily).  However he did incredibily well and even walked up the ramp on the first try!  The only down fall was getting him in the building (it took a lot of treats and big pushes).  The teacher told me the exact thing everyone on here did as well about the tile floors.  Another Petco trip might be inthe near future...this time I will bringhis Kong with peanut butter or a frosty paw (he never turns down those!)   :D

Phew....I thought Cooper was a one and only with this situation.  Next time I will definitely remember to keep his favorite treats on me when we go anywhere with tile flooring!  Thanks everyone! ;D

Yesterday we took an hour drive and brought Cooper to play with our friend's Lab.  While in the area, we decided to first stop at Petco and pick up some food and a toy for Cooper.  Now, Cooper has never been in a store before, so I already knew the automatic doors were going to be an adventure.  To my surprise, he flew right through the doors without a care.  However, as soon as all four paws were on the tile floor he pretty much went spread eagle and flopped down.  Our poor Berner couldn't even stand up without sliding around like he was on ice.  I felt horrible.  Right away I figured it was probably the fur in between his pads (we have never trimmed it, because it has never bothered him).  So, Cooper (shaking and very timid) and I sat down on the floor of the entrance of Petco while my husband went to grab the food and toy.   Eventually Cooper got up enough courage and skated back over to the front door (we had attempted to pick him up, but he is now way too heavy for me to lift at 70lbs).  As soon as we were back outside, he was back to happy go lucky pup, running around, visiting people and dogs.

As soon as we got to our friend's house we went inside (Cooper had never been in the house before)...we made it to the entry rug, but Cooper wouldn't budge, right off the mat was their kitchen laminate flooring that was flat and shiny.  He was scared to death of that floor.  After treat after treat and 3 big pushes, he finally made it onto the floor and was fine walking then.  But now I have a pup that is petrified of smooth tile flooring.

We start obedience classes this Tuesday....I hope they can help me with his tile floor fear (and let's hope they don't have tile floor there!) ;)

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Re: Post-neuter question
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:17:28 pm »
Cooper was neutered on Thursday and was back to his old self by thursday evening.  The only thing we noticed with him is that he went to bed at 7pm instead of 8pm.  By 5am Friday morning, he was jumping around playing with the cats and his toys.  I was so surprised.  I guess I didn't need to take Friday off from work to take care of him!

I'd love to hear an update on Titan.  I am actually bringing Cooper to be neutered tomorrow morning and I have the idential feelings that you did!  My on;y difference is that Cooper is 6 months old.  I am worried that it may be too soon and that it might stunt his growth.  He also does not hump and is not aggressive at all.  He does however sometimes just take off on us when we bring him outside (we live in the woods).  It takes us usually about 45 to an hour to find him...he just takes off through the woods to our neighbors houses and will not come when we call him (or even for treats).  I have talked to some friends who have had very well behaved male dogs of theirs do the same thing before they were neutered.

I am planning on talking to the vet tomorrow morning about the whole operation and such as well.  I am going to have the hardest time dropping him off tomorrow...I know he is going to give me those sad eyes and make me cry when I have to leave him there.   :'(
