Anything Non-Dog Related / Re: Go away, Gustav!

Oh goodness! I live on the upper east coast so the most i get is bad storms and tornado watches. I'm terrified of hurricanes. I wish the best of luck and safety to all of you in the hurricane regions. Stay safe and keep your pets close!  :)

Two things
1: As stated before, being AKC certified means nothing, it just means that they spent the money to register their dog. It does not necessarily equal a reputable breeder. I can sort of unerstand 3 letters of reccomendation, kind of like ok you sound great but i want to make sure you're for real. Even with that mindset its pushing it a little. But the boss thing sounds a bit much. All that aside, the fact that it is an extremely one sided policy is not right. I see red flags. A reputable and responsible breeder should be willing to show you reeferences so that you know you're getting a quality pup. I would say move on. There are hundreds of other Newf breeders. I'm sure plenty of people here would be willing to personal message you with the info on their breeders.

2: Wow, you are just like me. I was born with a Saint in the house. Her name was Remy. Funny thing my Sis's name is Zoƫ lol. My beloved "2nd mommy" who was the sweeter than the sweetest thing immaginable, passed away when I was 6 due to heartworm complications. When it came time for another giant, what did we go for - NEWFIE!!! I think you are right not to get another saint. Partially because no matter how hard you try, you will compare her/him to Zoey, and no two dogs are alike, and the other reason is you get to add to your giant knowledge with a new breed and thats always fun. Good luck finding a pup! I'm sure who ever you choose will be perfect!

HAHAHA!!! That must be a newf thing cause Lu does it too. Best part is that when she does that, her snoring gets even louder and we just look at her and laugh. Cute pic!!!! (and cute dog)  :D

Remembering those no longer with us. / Re: heart ache

Oh, goodness :(
I know that we can tell you "it'll be ok the hurt will pass" until you turn blue, but that doesn't change the fact that you're hurting a grieving now. All I can say is that you did your best, and P-nut knows that you did. It hurts alot right now, and the sadness doesnt go away, but you get through it. One day, I promise you, you will wake up and not cry thinking about him, and those days will come more frequently until you can think of him and laugh at the funny memories. We are all here for you when you need us, and many of us know how it felt when we lost our precious friends. But just remember the funny times, keep something of his like his collar and leash, favorite toy, or bowl and keep a memory box. It really helped me when I lost my Sait Bernard Remy. P-nut will be waiting at the rainbow bridge for you one day, ready to greet you with a wagging tail. And don't let anyone convince you that "its a dog, you'll get over it" because it just means they haven't been blessed the way you have.

Lin and Horsepoor21, you guys are great. I was just worried because i was looking at charts and the dogs weighed less but were taller at her age so i was like "OMG, Am I overfeeding her?! or is she just bulky?" The vet said her diet is great and not to change it though so I guess that means I'm doing good. Also, I guess her growing slow is better for her hips and elbows. Unfortunately I dont know what her parents look like. I got her from apet store *blushes embarassedly* I know, I know, supporting those awful puppy mills, but i couldnt leave her there, she was too beautiful and I had been wanting a newf for ages but the bitch we looked at was never studded :( So......
But I do have her pedigree, we made sure to look at it carefully before purchase and both parents are OFA certified. Though that still doesn't tell me their size.

Thanks to everyone who's answered you've really helped me. In the end it doesnt matter how big Lu is, shes still perfect, but sometimes its hard not to have those "new parent" jitters :)

Glad to know there's a place where people understand big dogs. You guys are the best and my Kahlua will certainly appreciate all of the things that i'm learning from everyone :)

When Kahlua went through a big fear period during training, the trainers sprayed a bandanna with the Comfort Zone spray. It worked wonders. She calmed down almost immediately and was able to train without being frightened. My big chicken  :D

Rescue remedy is less expensive, but i strongly reccomend Comfort Zone because it is formulated to immitate a nursing bitch's scent.

Try it, I know its pricey but it does work

Collars, crates, & other cool things / Re: Choke Chain or Martingale
« on: August 25, 2008, 11:55:44 am »
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER use a choke!!! If you want something like that use a pinch or a prong. Studies show that before the dog responds to the pressure from a choke it can seriously hurt thier trachea or even collapse it! Some dogs just dont stop pulling until they have no choice and thats where it gets dangerous. Pinches/Prongs give and immediate signal by pinching the skin which is more effective and faster that pressure and choking. Please for the sake of the dog don't use chokes :(

I've never tried a martingale, but i have heard good things about them.
If that still doesn't work try a head collar, The gentle leader harness has worked beautifully on my bp

OMG!!! Cute collar. But let me just say WOW!

I have seen some dogs cute enough to make me melt into a puddle, but Miss Jigs is different, she looks like she's smiling!!!! I can't get over how cute she is!!!!!!! Wow! :D
