General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / We got lickers! HELP!!
« on: January 22, 2009, 12:49:30 pm »
hi everyone! i need a lil help. my to pups are HUGE lickers! i know they're pups so i wasnt to worried about it but nothin i seem to do will stop them! sometimes it seems they dont even know they do it. haha mooney my pit/mastiff will just set there licking the air and when someone comes in the door or sets down they walk or run(which im trying to work on that to) to that person and starts licking the crap outta em. i stop them but 5 sec later they go at it again. right now i go and make them lay down in the room(with the door open) until i say they can get up, just to calm them down. but how can i get them to stop or at least calm it down a bit? its just so crazy how much they do this. any advice PLEASE!!!!

thanx for the help again! i felt like something just wasnt right. i'm going to go talk to my old vet of mine that we had when i was younger, after xmas. he has a long wonderful reputation of doin great work. the only reason i didnt go to him from the beginning was cause our breeders had takin our pups there from the begining and spoke highly of him. i should of went with my first instinct about staying with my original vet! never again will i go against it! thanx very much again to everyone!!!!

thats good to hear. but hes giving them the same shots everytime. maybe a lil dif. but for our mastiff he's always giving him a bordetella shot, one a month every month. we've had many distemper, parainfluenza, parvovirus(understand this one)shots, and already two rabie shots. and he's only 5months old. my pit/mastiff has only gottin one rabie shot and of course the regular shots. does that still seem rite?

ok so i've been taking my two pups to the vet once a month getting them both two shots each time on vets orders. i was wondering if thats right? it seems a bit much to me. i've had my boys for 3 months now and haven't had a puppy before that since i was 13 so i don't know for sure. not only is it very expensive but it just seems odd to me. but i'm prob just out of the loup! haha i'm going to ask around from other vets in our area but i'd thought i'd check with anyone here first to see if thats right or if i'm just being to paranoid?

i switched my mastiff just a lil before he turned 4 months and my pitt/mastiff switched with him but he was just a lil over 3 months old. they did great with the switch. i mixed a lil of their puppy food in with the adult and gradually over 3 days went rite to adult. my mastiff Pike is already over 60lbs and just turned 5 months old and my pit/mastiff Mooney is about 35-40lbs at almost 5 months. ur pup is adorable by the way!

o they are all adorable!! ya lookn more at clancy he looks just like one of pike's sisters only bigger! haha that black brindle is beautiful!!! ya pike was 55lbs at 4months! hes almost 5 months now(in a few days) and already ways well over 60lbs. everyone keeps asking me what im feeding him! haha jst dog food i say, he's on a schedule so he wont over feed. i need to get a ramp for my truck. it takes alot of stretching before i can lift him up to put him in the back! lol where did u purchase urs if i may ask?

ya? i saw a pic awhile ago of a new members pup that lookd so much like my Pike that i had to do a double take then i couldnt stop staring at the pic! haha how old is Clancy? i really need to get sum pics of my pit/mastiff, Mooney up to show everyone. its just been so crazy around here lately. i kinda freak when anything happends to my pups! hahaha ya not only did this happen to Pike but Mooney hurt his foot the other day and he's such a good boy but OMG! what a whiner! of course i freaked out took em to the vet to find out his foot was jst fine jst a lil sprained. but sumtimes i feel like he uses that to his advantage cause if he gets in trouble he'll start slightly limping and whimpering! what a smart lil dog! haha

thanx again yellow dog mom! the vet said he was pretty sure thats what it was, just that something had gotten in his gums and was irritating him. and since the swelling went completly down and he showed no signs of irritation or pain he wasnt goin to run a bunch of expensive test but said only to watch him and if it did happen to swell back up and ice cubes did not work after one day to come back. so i finally got to breath my first big sigh of relief after about 18 hours! lol

FAQs about puppies / question about puppy teething!!
« on: November 30, 2008, 07:15:28 pm »
ok so i was wondering when puppies teeth can their mouth or the general area around their mouth swell? like around their nose? cause my puppies did or at least im hoping thats what it is. it just happened earlier today. iam taking him to our vet tomorow but was just wondering if that could be the reason. im real worried about it. it doesnt seem to bother him. he eats fine and still chews on all his toys just fine with no apparent pain and he allows us to look in side his mouth. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
