Canned pumpkin (pure not with spices!) rice & boiled hamburger for at least a day...Samson was the king of booty blowouts as a pup & this always worked for us!...As far as taking your dog into Petsmart, Petco, etc...Just make sure he has all of his vaccinations current including bordatella (kennel cough) & worms happen...lol.. .I think it is important to socialize your dogs as much as possible!!Use precautionary measures & strut your mutt!! :) (just a figure of speech here that happens to rhyme with strut...lol!) :)

we have a doggy play day here, and at other friends homes

the dogs get socialized, and we know they all her disease free. and we all always have so much fun.us humamns get to socialize too.
last week, one dog jumped in the pool, and others fell in, no animal was hurt, and some came home nice and clean 8)

also, there was a litter there, and we all got to play with puppies, so adorable.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Discussions / Re: Ridgeback mixed with what?
« on: March 19, 2006, 01:12:52 am »
He looks pretty full breed to me, just not to "standard" with that extra white.  Is he ridgeless?  I've seen full Ridgies that look a lot like him.  Here's a picture of my Ridgeback Play Group.

ive seen many RR's win in shows, and have the extra white
its not a D. Q., just undersirable, if the dog, much white, is put together beautifully, and moves out like a dream, they can win. also, the white is easy to breed out.
the only D. Q. on a ridgeback, is no ridge

Breeding Questions & Information / Re: Legal Action against Breeders?
« on: March 19, 2006, 01:01:05 am »
I have a 18 month old newfoundland puppy who has had 6 total operations. 5 on his eyes, and 1 TPO on his his good hip. I admit, I bought the dog when I moved to a new city with the only breeder I could find easily. I thought I did the proprt research, but after 6 visits to the vet with allergy problems, eye problems, and clicking hips, I joined a Newfoundland club that told me the truth about the breeder. This breeder did not do the proper joint and health certifications on the dog and mated the dogs more than they should be. Granted I did not want a show quailty dog, but with upwards of $10,000 spent to date, and the poor quailty of life my dog has, I need advice on legal action.  I did sign a contract with the breeder, which covers her in most cases. That is where I need any advice. The state I live in does not have a puppy lemon law, but her contract mirrors most lemon law's in the country. I am seeking action becasue although she does have a sound contract, she does not live up to the standards that would warrant such a contract. Any advice would be wonderful!!! Thanks for reading!
am so sorry for you and your dog
but, please, always check the mother club and the breeder before purchusing any pup. ask if ofa, eyes, thyroid check, etc, depending on the breed's most common problems. i do hope your dog gets better. so sad and shamefull, that a beautiful animal should suffer because of greed.

a word of warning

going to pet smart, or any pet stores where dogs can walk in, is a accident waiting to happen
you do not know, if the other dogs are vaccinated, wormed, and, god forbid, have parvo.highly contagious.
we bleach our shoes, or change them, anytime we come home from a dog show, or park, where other dogs have been.
better safethen sorry,, pet stores do not put up signs, enter at your own risk.  i have seen too many pups and dogs get sick, because of, lets sell anything to make a  buck at petco, petsmart or any other pet stores. they do not disinfect for diseases.   as a ex vet tech, at a shelter, ive seen too much sickness and death.  an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Hi everyone , I don't want to start any fights or anything , and I'm in NO way implying I want to start breeding dogs for $$$$ . I am just curious  :) I hear many good breeders say that you can't make any money if you responsibly breed a dog . But I was curious what all the hidden costs must be ? I know you pay alot of money for the best food and of course toys , bones , and all that good stuff we all get our pets . And then there's vet bills . I know things can go terribly wrong , but what if they don't ? And then all the OFA certifications and stuff . And I can see that if you show , well there goes tons of money . But what about the breeders that don't show ? Are they considered bad breeders then ? Like with newfoundlands , people pay up to ( or more ? ) $2,000 for a puppy . And that breeders dog had 10 puppies . That's $20 , 000 . Where does all the money go to ?
wheeew , I'm long winded . Sorry , I'm just curious how it all works ! Thanks a bunch ! ;D

hymmmmmmmm
well, there's the cost of championing the mom, ex rays, dew claw removal, stud fee, shots,, health certificates, food, and so on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BREED TO MAKE BETTER DOGS,,,,,,,,,,NOT MORE,   selling  pups without all this, yea, thats puppy milling and $$$$$

German Shepherd Discussions / Re: Kiya's xray results
« on: March 18, 2006, 08:25:13 am »
That sounds good so far but the real story will be at two. I have a friend who has a Shiloh that had textbook perfect elbpws and hips at age one prelims and by age two had grade 2 CDH in one hip, osteoarthritis and elbow dysplasia. It was a shock for all of us but it did teach us the reason for waiting to stud a Shiloh until the xrays are done at 2 years old.

Cathy and Zion's Gentle Windwalker (aka Bear)

oh  btw  she is  over 2 now  ofa excelent/hips/  elbows normal,, big difference in shepards and ridgebacks
i do understand the concern tho

German Shepherd Discussions / Re: Question about ears
« on: March 18, 2006, 08:17:20 am »
He's about 3 yrs old.  He's supposed to look just like his daddy except for the ear flop.  I'm thinking of adopting him if I can get hubby to agree.

Here's his daddy

http://www.canedapastoretedesco.info/Documenti/bsz%20ulm%202003/Auslesi%20maschi/va9.htm

if you are adopting him, does it really matter if his ear flops or not

i'm sure he has a neuter contract, adopt. as pet only,,,,,,,,,,just love him
thats what counts

« on: March 18, 2006, 07:13:58 am »
we have been very lucky with our ridgebacks
we know what to look for in a RR
there is no perfect dog, but we are trying. ;D
we always make sure all the certifications are done on the parents before breeding, x rays ,,,,,,,etc.
also, we look at the bloodlines, how many ch. bob, bis, and biss in the line. that will give us a good idea how our pups will turn out and what they
can pull from the bloodline.
also, when we do, do a breeding, we try to improve, if, say, the male is weak in the forechest, we will breed to a bitch that is strong in that area, to pull better forchests
on the pups, and so on.
JUST BECAUSE IT HAS A RIDGE,,,,,,,,,,DOES NOT MAKE IT A QUALITY RIDGEBACK !!!WHY  PAY TOO MUCH MONEY, AND GET PROBLEMS. please, always do all your recearch, before getting any pure  bred dog! :-\
cheaper is not better, you get what you pay for, buying from  pet stores will cost you a fortune down the line in vet bills.all those poor pups come from puppy mills.

unethical breeders will also cause you heart break, just read all the sad posts on  BPO. bad hips, this, that, so much heart break. :'(

here is a photo of a nandi pup, pet only. they are very happy with him, and we are thrilled with his new family
