Dog is Killing Pear trees....help!
« on: May 23, 2006, 10:13:15 am »
A coworker just stopped me in the elevator to ask for advice.  She and her husband have been fighting for two days because their dog (about 1 year old) has killed two pear trees in their yard.  Hubby says the dog has to go - she's desperate to find a way to show him the tree killing can be stopped!

I guess the branches sweep down low enough on the pear trees that the dog is pulling on them, and thereby killing the trees.

Anyone have any experience with this or thoughts on how to stop this behaviour?

until the tree grows tall enough chicken wire around the tree like a fence to keep the dog from getting close enough. Our pear tree is full grown and it would take a seven foot dog to reach the branches.

Hire his pruning services out and use the procedes to buy all the pears you want ;D. Only real option is to block the dogs access to the trees. Maybe someone else will have advice that is a little more productive than my smart @ss remark.
