I know it's early but....
« on: May 24, 2006, 10:57:42 am »
we put ourselves on the waiting list with a breeder in Newfoundland for another Landseer pup.  She is planning two litters this year - one to be bred in June 2006 and a Landseer litter to be bred in October 2006.  This means we could be welcoming a new babe into our home in February 2007!

Now I just have to talk my husband out of insisting on naming him BJ.   ::)

I'm so excited for you!  It took me 3 years to decide to get another pup, but I now wish that I had not waited so long!  My vet had explained to me that it is different with everyone, some people are comforted by getting another pet quickly, but some have to take more time.  I'm sure that your new baby will provide you with a ton of love!! :) :)

I don't think that is fast at all.  We are getting a dog NOW because Badger is 5 years old, and according to my math, if he lives to be 12 (wishfull thinking I know) our second dog will be 7 already.  I can't stand the idea of not having well-bonded-to-fur to cry into when I eventually lose my sweet Badger.
Good for you!  Congrats!  We want PICS! :)

That is part of the reason we got Boudreaux when we did as well.  Tsu is 12 now and I don't want to be "dogless" when the bridge calls sweet Tsu home.

I don't think it's too early....it's whenever you're ready and we all know this new pup will have its own special spot in your heart right next to Barkley.

With the heart and love you have to give it is never to soon.  I knew when I lost Rosie that I needed a pup to take care of.  I will never be without at least two fur-babies now.

Definitely not too early! Only you know when you are ready!
I am really happy for you!
So are you looking for a male or female?!

We're hoping for a male.  Sheba is a female and we found the balance worked well.  She'll be 4 1/2 when this new puppers joins our home.  How am I going to make it until February 2007??????

YAY!  How exciting! ;D ;)

Don't at all feel bad, both you (and Barkley) are well aware of the fact that he will never be replaced.  But a new pup sure helps deal with the sorrow, and fills that empty spot! ;D

We got Kate only a month and a half after Slater passed away.  She did not at all replace him, and she is nothing like him in character (which we love).  How lucky are we to have the love of two totally different dogs in our lives?  SUPER LUCKY!!! ;)

I'm sure Barkley will be there with you to pick out your new pup - Slater led us right to Kate and we never thought about it twice! :)

I'm sooooooooo happy for you! ;D

I don't think it's too soon at all. I waited a week and a half between my dog dying and getting Zoey as a puppy. I just couldn't stand seeing an empty yard. A pup will help you heal, so don't feel bad at all. You're not replacing Barkley; no one ever could. You will always remember and love him.

Awwwww! I love hearing stories about Barkley! :) That is so cute how he waited in the closet for an hour. What a sweet boy! :) How old was he?
Blessings! :)

Those stories are so sweet!  Even if you aren't quite ready now, I'm sure you will be by the time he comes!  The time will go by quickly, though I'm sure there will still be empty, lonely moments between now and then.  I was so sure when Thor died that I wouldn't get another Pyr.  Within a few months I felt naked, Pyrless which quickly convinced me otherwise.  Then it was just a matter of waiting for the right time and dogs.  If you start getting antsy, volunteer at your local shelter and spread some of that affection around to animals that are waiting for homes. ;)
