:P  I'm just wondering if rawhide chews were ok...I know that they have been around for ever, but something is tickling the back of my brain making me think that they are not so good...Any opinions???

I've heard that some dogs can't digest them and that can cause blockage.

Some dogs will just soften them up and then swallow which can cause choking.  If you've got a dog who doesn't handle fatty foods well, you'll want to avoid rawhide as well.  I used to feed them to some of my dogs but I watch them first to see how they handle them.  At this point I don't have any dogs who can handle them.

It depends where they are from.  If they are from the good ole US of A, then with caution, they are probably okay (I completely agree with longshadowfarm s).  But if they are processed out side the US, they can contain a small amount of arensic which is used in the curing process.  Probably best to avoid the "cheap" ones.

We let ours chew on them occasionally as a treat, but not the flat square kind. Like Zanie mentioned, Lucas softened his once and I had to fish it out of his throat! Never again. We get the long rolled up kind and they gnaw on the ends and chew in smaller bites. When I see them getting toward the end I throw it away just incase.
