For the love of God Samson...They are children not SHEEP!

I have had a few problems with Samson since we got him...Most related
to socialization which has been all but solved by taking him everywhere
with me & putting him into situations that he didn't really want to be
in until he got as used to it as he ever probably will...So, that's
going well now...There is a problem we are having that I can seem to
fix...Samson is baby gated out of the areas of the house that I don't
want him in...It's the cats' turf...The problem is that whenever either
of my small children go over the baby gates or out the door to the
garage, he goes nuts!...He tries to bite on to them to prevent them
from leaving the area & then when they do get over our out he barks his
head off & runs back & forth in the room they left...I tell him it's
o.k. & no barks but he is pretty much inconsolable for awhile...I know
he thinks his "sheep" have escaped the pen & that worries him but,
though I don't mind the barking so much, it upsets him so much & I hate
to see that...Also the trying to grab them with his mouth to prevent
them from leaving is just not acceptable...A ny advise would be really
appreciated!...B.t.w., he will just be 11 months old on the 23rd of
this month & was with sheep until we got him at 14 weeks.

Ty!...Nick, though I have to admit it was funny when my 5 yr. old niece was here for the past couple of days & Samson had her shirt half off trying to drag her back into the pen & she was screaming indignation... lol...He has to stop it...lol...I have gotten some good advice here & at a couple of my other groups...I will combine it & see what we can do...Well, be using the water bottle thing...My kids always want to squirt him & I won't let them so they'll enjoy that...lol...& yes, I do use o.k. to release from a dwon to get a treat & when I release him to cross the street when we walk...It a different tone of voice though but I hadn't thought of that...I'll try it's alright instead.

Awww, it's sweet he wants to 'mother them' like that, I guess he feels it's his job to keep the kids safe from the great unknown on the other side of the gate.

I agree, though you don't want him to use his mouth for this.  The squirt bottle works real well in sittuations like this.  After a few squirts accompained by a good firm "NO"  you'll just have to say no and show him the squirt bottle, then soon you can eliminate the bottle, and just say no.
I doubt it will take very long, just be consistant, He's still a baby himself.

I am not cheating on you guys Nats!...You'll just have to accept that I have room in my life for more than one group!...lol...B.P.'s takes up all the room in my heart though!...I love you guys!...& look at the time on my post...before noon...I'm not even drunk...LOL!...We are starting squirt gun therapy today...Much better than my kids wacking away at him while trying despertly to escape the jaws of "The Gator" as we affectionatly call him...lol...Ty all for your good advise!...& 4everblu, that's the coolest looking dog I think I've ever seen...I'm gonna sound like an idiot for asking but is it a Dalmation or some other big spotted dog of some sort...Either way just gorgeous!
