Found lump on my Pit's back leg UPDATE
« on: August 14, 2006, 02:35:47 pm »

I'm hoping till I can get my pitbull to the vet on Friday some one out here can give me some insight cause although calm on the surface I am FREAKING OUT !!!!!!! :o

Took my pit to the groomers to get her nails sanded down (she hates them cut)
Its a regular $5. every 10 days ritual
The lady noticed my girl had a lump on the back of her mid to upper thigh.
It is about the size of, if you took a a mellon baller and made a mellon ball. There is no hair on it,
but the woman freaked me out when she mentioned the
T word  Tumor  :oMaybe it's a spider bite.
It is not mushy nor is it hard.
It's not open or oozing.
Any ideas?
I was hoping more a spider bit than a tumor.
I feel bad I didn't notice it, but I don't usually go petting her back legs.

It's a great idea to take her to a vet, but don't start freaking out just yet - it could be something totally harmless. I know a few dogs with lumps like that that are perfectly harmless cysts

Unfortunately there is no way to know without your vet looking at it. It could be a bite, a cyst, a hygroma, or a tumor of some kind. Hope she's ok.

I agree with what everyone has said so far,Magic has had two for at least 3 yrs now,and the 1st thing I did was have the vet ck them out. Limpoma, and secabous cyst, but now he has another one starting and one of the ones he has had the longest has changed shape and bothers him when touched, so he is scheduled to go in on the 22nt of this month to remove them all .

They will all go to the lab even though the vet I have doesn't seem too worried about them.He also said that the only way to know 100 percent is the lab work.Since that one has me worried it's worth it for me to get them all ck'd.

I don't look forward to leaving him for the day,or the wait for the lab work, but I have to be the strong Mommy here, and do what I think is best.

I would have the vet ck it. and if it's nothing you need to do anything with right now don't,if it is then  do.

But don't freak out,you didn't sound too freaked out,it's just one of those things that we MOM's have to take care of.

let us know what you find out.

Welcome, MSF, I'm Deena. Have 3 bigpaws and 1 small paw. Congrats on adopting Mozart.

How's your pitbull? Did you take her to the vet yet? Please keep us updated.

We were watching the bump and it got larger so w went back to the vet and they took a needle sample.
I'm sad to say it is not a fatty growth but mass cells of suspisuous nature.
She will be having surgery the 16th to have it removed, sent to a lab and graded.
I am praying for level #1.
Will let you know how she does.
Another vet said Pits were known for this.   :'(
I keep thinking about how much I love her and what an important part of my life she is.
I'm scared and I'm worried. She means so much to me.

I'll be keeping you in my prayers. You should really try to get them to do the surgery sooner. The quicker she gets treatment the better.
