He's been poisoned.
« on: June 20, 2005, 05:55:43 pm »
Champie, my farm dog( at work) has been poisoned.  I don't know if he is going to make it.  We don't know what poisoned him.  I am hysterical, I can't believe it.  He is home and he is tranquilized.  He can't be treated for the poison because we have no idea what he ate.  his symptoms were:  Blincking eyes, tilted head, trembling in the hind end and each ear held in a different position then the other.  Does anyone recognize any of these signs?  Please help me. :'(

One year our dogs got into worm medicine for the horses and did the same thing.  They made it ok but it was rough.  My heart goes out to you.  Peggy

Ohhhh Jaimie I am so so sorry to hear about this. It has to be heart breaking to see him and not be able to do anything. I take it he has been to the vet......

Since he is a dog on a farm, a few things came to mind. I am sure these are all things you and the vet already have discussed. Rat poison, lead from old paint, antifreeze, all kinds of fertilizers.

I am sorry I can be of no help, that makes me realize I have a big subject I need to do some studying on. I do have a couple of links though, maybe we can find something in there.

http://maxshouse.com/database_monographs/adverse_reactions_to_food.htm

I have more, but the top link is probably the best one.

I will be thinking of you and Champie and both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight. Please let us know as soon as you know. My whole family is sending big huggs and soft slobbers

As of this morning Champe is the same.  We don't have slug bait, fertilizer or rat poison ANYWHERE on the farm.  The problem is that Champie eats just about anything he can get his lips on so it could have been anything that poisoned him.  I had a terrible night last night, hardly any sleep. I am just beside myself with worry.

Thanks for all the support, it is very mush needed.  I will keep you guys updated.  Thanks again.

Oh Jamie My thoughts are with you.
I was wondering if he could have eaten a frog or other animal who may be poisionous?? Im sure you have already thought of that. Maybe if someone knows the side affects for humans to a poisionous animal it may help??
I wish I could help!!
Slobbery kisses.
Hang in there. We will be here for you.
