She's learning to be an LGD!!!!
« on: October 04, 2006, 11:22:09 am »
Binky has finally started to realize that she is meant to protect the goats- not to jump on them and terrify them!  She has chosen a new spot in the yard, right at the corner of the goats' fence, where she can see the whole yard.  She lays there and barks at all "threats" including small children walking by, our neighbor and the pug next door!:)
I have been taking her into the goats' pen (on leash) and she has calmed down a bit.  In fact, she's more interested in eating their poo (gross)than in looking at the goats!
I attached a pic- you can see Ferdinand peering over the fence at Binky.  The lattice in the side is a window so the dogs and goats can look at each other.  Chicklet can barely reach but she standsa on her hind legs and licks the goats' noses through the lattice!  Cute.
Sorry, so long, I'm just proud of my Binky!

I love to talk about the goats!  They are Nigerian Dwarf goat wethers (neutered males).  I wanted to get used to caring for them before I get into milking, bredding, etc which is why I got neutered males.  Also, bucks smell quite strongly!
They are very affectionate and loveable-almost dog-like.  As for care, relatively low maintenance.  I feed them grain twice a day and free choice hay and browse.  Fencing is important (they push against it and can jump).
There are a lot of great sites (I did a lot of research before choosing them).  www.goatweb.co m is a great place to find out anything you might want to know about goats!
BTW, I am so fascinated by your dogs- even my husband likes to see pics of them!

I was plying with pygmy (sp) goats at my sisters one day and fell in love... Now I need to have them... How many total do you have... I would only want neutered males because I dont need males peeing on themselves LOL

I have two- you must have at least two gaots as they're herd animals and will be terribly lonely (and complain loudly) if they're alone.  I looked into Pygmies and have heard they're great too.  I decided on Nigerians though b/c they look like mini dairy goats where Pygmies are a little stockier and heavier boned.  I definitely recommend goats- they are such a joy to watch when they play w/ each other-very relaxing.  I hope you get some so we can see cute kid pix!
