Allie's obsessed with the baby?!
« on: November 02, 2006, 09:40:30 am »
I'm about 7 months along , and now all of the sudden she won't stop digging at my belly , it really hurts ! She's leaving claw marks on me , and though she knows better she just won't stop . I don't understand why she's doing this ?! It's like every time she comes to snuggle I have to hold her down by her collar or she'll literaly start to dig again ! Do you think she's just realizing there's something in there , or maybe she sences there's something wrong ???

I would imagine she senses the movement...may be even a sound that human can't hear and she's worried about her mama.  To her, you probably have an alien invasion and she's trying to get it out!  It will take some firm training to keep her from digging your belly...a firm "BACK"  or  "NO!!" and then calm reassurance that you are okay.

I know you must have read about some cancer detecting dogs, but I think this is an entirely different thing....don't worry!  You and your baby are just fine! ;) ;D ;D

You're right , I have read about dogs detecting cancer , seizures , and such and that was what went thru my head ! LOL I'm a worrier ! I have been pushing her away HARD and giving a firm no , but she comes right back and does it again . It's like she can't control herself . Didn't someone once mention putting something in a spray bottle and squirting it in her mouth ? Not water of course because she'd LOVE that ..... maybe lemon juice ?

Lemon juice would work! :P

I kind of thought that's where that was coming from....a pregnant mind is busy ALL the time!  It's amazing the things you can worry about!  My husband called it the 'pregnancy fog' because I couldn't concentrate on what was at hand....I was too worried about what was coming up!!

If she was concerned about my "shape" changing she'd have been digging at my rear end a long time ago ! LMAO  ;D

is allie the dog in your avatar? she apears to be a border collie mix?
border collies can be obsessive and i believe this to be obessive behavior that you really need to get the upper hand on, as some already suggested, let us know how it is going!

Nope , that's Moose in my avitar and you're right , he is newfie/bc cross , but fortunetly with no obssesive behaviors besides giving kisses ! LOL  ;) Allie's all newf . Luckily , she's just kind of let it go on her own , I never had to use a squirt bottle or do the leash thing , she just kind of forgot about it !So it lasted three days and now it's like it never happened besides the scratches I have  :P  ::)
