Holiday Spirits (Drinks)
« on: December 02, 2006, 12:06:56 am »
I was just curious if anyone has special Holiday drinks/recipes that they would like to share. :)
My sister comes in from Colorado at Christmas time and we have our annual "Holiday Drink".  We each find new recipes to share and take home.  It's kinda like a cookie swap.  I won't usually drink these "specialty" drinks, but will occasionally have a Coffeetini or similar "dessert" type drink after dinner at a restaurant.  We enjoy doing this when we get together... it makes "our time" togther that much better.
Here's one of my favorites:

Chocolate Martinis

Chocolate rim
Godiva liqueur
Shaved milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate

8 ounces (1cup) Godiva liquer
4 ounces (1/2 cup) vodka
1/2 cup half-and-half

Dip the edges of 4 martini glasses in liqueur and rim them with chocolate.

In a small saucepan, combine the liqueur, vodka, and half-and-half.  Heat over medium to medium-high heat until warm but not hot.  Pour into the rimmed martini glasses and serve.

I look forward to seeing other recipes... non-alchol,too please.  I'm always looking for wonderful things for the kids.

Big Dogs...got to love'em!!

My grandmother use to make her own Irish whisky brew.  I don't have the recipe with me but I will be up at her house next week to pack up her stuff (and also to pick up Polar) when I get it I will post it.

I came up with a a really yummy non-alcoholic Christmas drink that would work for adults and kids alike.  Is so easy.

Mix Koala Springs Kiwi, Lime + Grapefruit with a little grenadine - delicious.  Is a sweet yet tart drink, kind of like a Shirley Temple but more refreshing.  I love it...  We buy Koala Springs at our local grocery store, a case of 24 bottles goes for about $14.00.

My fav is easy.

Eggnog with a twist  :o

One shot of spiced rum
Eggnog to fill glass. (I use the light eggnog)
You can also add cinnamon or nutmeg.
Can also be served warm.

Edit: I also like coffee with Baily's Irish cream in it.

My only official holiday drink is one that I used to make every Thanksgiving as a kid.

My mom always made this fruit salad dish with fruit coctail, mandarin oranges, cool whip, marshmallows, and I can't remember what else (I'm thinking maybe pinapple slices and maraschino cherries). Anyways, I hated the dish. But what I did like was the drink I made from the dish. I would take the fruit syrup from all the cans (you have to drain them for the recipe) and then I would mix that with gingerale. I called it my 'thanksgiving cocktail'. I haven't had one in awhile but I remember loving it :)
