As an amatuer photo-nut, I cannot say enough good things about Canon. I have a Canon EOS 10D with a bunch of different lens.

For you Nikki - I highly suggest a Canon A95. They're a great point-n-shoot camera, easy on the budget as well. (less than $200 in most places)
