Hi there, I want to respond to the question about getting a new puppy. We have recently purchased not 1 but 2 Newfie pups! Yes, we are CRAZY. Someone before mentioned Biljac for training treats and our pups absolutely love them. We break them in half and I have them in my pockets all the time. We also crate train our dogs and we had small crates and then have worked up to larger ones. i bought them at garage sales for a reasonable price. Our breeder sent the girls home with pieces of towels that were in the whelping box and I think that really helped them not feel so anxious. They cried for the first 2-3 nights, and I mean HOWLED at being in their crates, but we were firm and now at 11 weeks, if we tell them to go to their beds, they go and get in their own crate. We also clipped on a small fan so it blows on them at night and they really seem to like that. I hope this helps.

We are really excited to be getting him.  I've been nosing around Freecycle and the local Craiglists for crates.  Figures before we decided to get him, everyone and their mother was giving them away. lol

Our oldest son has been spending the last 3 weeks down in Florida with my parents.  He doesn't know about the puppy yet, and we don't plan to tell him until we get him.  We are driving up to Ohio to meet the breeder in about 2 weeks and are going to tell him that we are just going up to meet some friends.  Hopefully, he won't notice the extra food and toys we are buying.  But then again he didn't know we were going to the 'Orange Bowl'  until the 2 teams ran out onto the field.  (He is where all the Blonde jokes come from.... )
Newfie on the Way.....
