Dew Claws
« on: July 11, 2005, 09:58:11 am »
Are Mastiff's supposed to have Dew Claws?  Maia didn't ever have any that I know of.  I saw an ad in the paper for....

MASTIFF-AKC reg, Fawn, brindle, apricot, shots & deworming, dewclaws removed, exc champion show bloodline

Thanks,

Emily and 1 husband, 1 boy, 1 on the way, and 4 crazy dogs

My puppy Zoe has dew claws and our vet will be removing them when we have her spayed. My vet said that if they are not removed at three days old they need to wait until they are sedated. I hope I spelled that correctly. This was his opinion. Good Luck.

People have them removed because they get caught on things and are very sharp

No kidding - Ranger has one that is so sharp that we call it the "dagger dew".  Fortunately, he hasn't got one caught on anything yet (knock wood).

Grumpy, my Zoe's are razor sharp. I just hope that the healing process when we do have them removed goes well. I wish our breeder would have just done it. Did you go to OTL this weekend?

No, too crazy for me!  We stayed far away...  Gwen got to go to Dog Beach in OB yesterday, and Ranger got to stay home and get a bath in the bathtub...  Guess who got the short end of the stick there!  :(

Did you guys go?

Some breeds do have them on their back feet. I know the Pyr does, not sure of any other breeds though.
