Please help, Monty is now almost 8 months old and weighs about 111 lbs, is this OK or is he too heavy now. I worried that he was not eating well before but now I am worried that I have gone the other way. Help this is worse than when the children were small!!!!

I am not familiar with Saints, but I am thinking that he is going to be a really big guy when he decides that he needs to stop growing. My largest is about 145 pounds and he is a Dane and he would go thru growth spurts so maybe Monty is just going thru a growth spurt.

Oh my! I'm sure some Saint people will chime in with some good info. I think he will have to start slowing down soon! At least for awhile. Good luck that's one HUGE puppy!!!

Can you post some pics? In your avatar he looks very fluffy, but not necessarily fat.  Such a cute freckledy face he has!!

Boy, I don't know about Saints either, but I'd love to!  Wink Grin  All I can say is that I think that he's adorable and I love those freckles!

Thanks for your help, I tried Google and I didn't find anything. I was sent a chart from the St Bernard Club of America but that was dated 1957. I can feel his ribs when I run my hands along him, but I worry because I exlected him to have slowed down by now. Does anyone know approx. he should be eating in a day.
Thanks you are all agreat deal of support,

Lola was 100 pounds at 8 months, since Monty is male 111 pounds sounds about normal to me.

If you can feel his ribs then he's fine. There should be some 'padding' there but with slight pressure you should be able to feel each rib.

Lola's weight has slowed down.. she's 14 months and about 130 pounds now. But she's way above average according that that 50's weight chart.

The advice about feeling his ribs is a good one. As long as you can feel his ribs when you brush your hands against them lightly, you should be fine. When you look at him from above, you should also see his waist area taper in (vs. bulging outward), like you would for a human that's in shape. This may be easier to see when he's wet since his fluffy fur's probably masking his shape a bit.

This picture was taken last week. I think it shows his size quite well. Do you think he looks OK?

This one to gives a good side view of my baby. I can feel his ribs, like running my hand over my own fingers. He is eating about 8 cups of food a day in 2 meals and several treats while we are training.

He looks perfect to me! I don't think he is overweight at all!

In the pics he looks fine to me too (though it looks like that mean ol' hose was trying to attack him  Smiley ).  He's a cutie!  What type of food is he eating?

I am feeding him Eagle Pack Large Breed Puppy Formula. It seems to help him cope well with those random hose attacks!!

If you can feel his ribs I'd think he was fine..and we already know he's not underweight. Tongue He just looks BIG to me. I feel my pups every so often to make sure I can feel their ribs too and make sure they are being piggies or anything. Wink

Sorry i'm late to your thread!  Looked back on old BPO posts and found Teddy's 8 month update - he was 121 lbs!!!  (There are a couple pics of him in the thread attached)http://www.bigpawsonly.com/index.php/topic,12580.0.html

After about a year they really slow down on the weight gain.  At 18 months, Teddy is a lean 155-160 lbs.  Between 6 and 9 months, he was putting on about 3-5 lbs PER WEEK!!!!

Every girl needs a Teddy bear!
