Elevated feeder for Great Dane
« on: July 06, 2007, 06:17:41 am »
We just got a Great Dane pup, he's about 14 weeks old now.  He's suppossed to be on the larger side when full grown so we've been looking for elevated feeders.  I wanted one like the Pet Zone feed-n-store but their tallest feeder is only 12" high, he's already outgrown that size. Is there a giant breed feed and store or at least an elevated food and water bowl taller than 18"  That seems to be the tallest I could find anywhere. Please help. Is the feeder suppossed to be at chest/shoulder height to the Dane?

Also, on the protein issue. He has little bouts of soft stool, bordering on diarrhea. We have given him cottage cheese and canned pumpkin to help this.  The pumpkin is protein free but the cottage cheese isn't.  Is that bad?
We don't see the vet for another week.

Thanks for the help.

You can also buy the 4 or 5 gallon plastic paint buckets at Loews etc. I think you can even get the lids in different colors. Just cut a whole in the lid large enough to fit the bowl into. You can put something in the bottom to weight it down. Your pup is adorable!!! What a cutie!!

this is a good website that has most every thing your dog would ever need, as for the raised feeder they have several but are not specific as to the size of them, however there is an 800 # at the bottom of the page you can call to ask about the heigth! welcome to the board, hope that helps!

I have gotten my raised feeders from a guy off eBay.  He does great work and his prices are very reasonable.

P.S.  Don't feel bad for Luke he too has a feeder.

Don't know much about raised feeders, my fur kids aren't anywhere near Dane sized, but, Woody stands on the ground and eats out of his bowl on the desk, so its raised about 8-10 inches LOL

Welcome to BPO, your Puppers is absolutely gorgeous~!

Welcome to BPO, Hans & Kristen! Your dane pup is gorgeous! We so NEED more pics of that sweet baby! I swear I need a dane in my life!

I am Rachel - and currently live in a house with seven dogs and a roomie - she has 3 chihuahuas and a lab. I have a dobie/pit, hound mix and a weimaraner!

I have been on the hunt for a new elevated feeder ever since Blu accidentally toppled his over and is now terrified of it! He is such a sensative boy :)

Tina and Julie - I would LOVE to see pics of your planters-turned-feeders.... such a great idea!

I may go to Loews tonight and look sat the plant stands...The look really neat, and I bet they are easy to paint if you wanted to get creative.

Everyone was so helpful, thanks.  We love the PetZone feed-n-store. My Mom has a Dane/lab mix and he's had his for over 7 years & it still looks new.
Cons: The largest size is only about 12" tall.
Pros: Stores 40 lbs. of food, durable molded plastic body & bowls seem indestructable, bowls are large & twist in and out of molded areas in the top of the body. One hole is open and it's how you put the food in and get it out.  The way the bowls are set makes them easy to clean and doesn't allow for water to drool all over the food.  Easy to keep clean.
We've looked at everything and can't find one as nice so we decided to get the Pet Zone feeder and build a platform for it.
We've attached a few more photos of Merlin. He is soooo cute that we don't seem to do anything but look at him anymore.
