New here
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:48:43 pm »
Hi I have recently adopted a Mastiff/Rottweiler pup, so I may need some help from time to time, and Krystal directed me here  ;D

So this is Gage, I was told he is 6-7 months, and what his mix is and that is about all, LOL.  So far he has been really good, house trained, kennel trained, pretty good on a leash, working on manners, he can sit, lay down and shake a paw.

Worried about what to feed him, and what not mostly.  I also have 2 Shiba Inu who are 12 and 10 years old, they are both fed Orijin but have been told that this, even the large breed puppy has too much protein.  I got him some Eagle Pack Holistic Select for now anyone have any other suggestions?  I need to keep him on something corn free due to my females allergies.

hello and welcome to the board. This is a wonderful place :) your pup is gorgeous!! I feed eagle pack holistic select giant breed puppy to my 11 week old saint Bernard and so far so good. At first I was a little concerned about it causing him loose stools, but decided to wait it out a little. Turns out that lasted about a week, I guess that's just how long it took lucca to get used to it, and now he has perfectly formed small poops :D well, good luck with everything and I look forward to seeing more of all your pups!

Hello & welcome!  Gage sure is a handsome guy.  I really like Innova & Wellness, though there are a lot of good corn-free foods available now.  We also avoid corn like the plague around here for many reasons  ;), but especially since it seems to be one of the many things that really trigger Daisy's IBD.

Welcome to BPO! This is a great site. Gage is positively gorgeous. I adopted both of my dogs--one from a shelter and the other from a rescue group, and both were really wonderful experiences. Sounds like Gage is adjusting to his new life quite well. I feed my dogs Wellness and Innova also--I've been really happy with both foods.

Hello and welcome.  Gage looks like a real sweetie.

Can't help much with the food, but Eagle pack is a very good brand.

that is a cute face.  He looks more like a mastiff, doesn't he?

I would suggest asking your vet what the best food is for his size and breed.  My Rottie is on fit and trim since she tends to keep on weight even when we are highly active.  With a big breed like that (especially with Rott in him) you'll want to keep him at his ideal weight to prevent against ACL tears.  (Rotts have horrible ACL's and weight is a factor in ACL tears.)

Well here are a couple of pics of the others in the house:

Ruffian:

Tonka:

Casper, he is also 12ish (was a stray my DH rescued about that many years ago):

So we feed all of them Orijen, this is the only food Casper has been able to eat other than the vets crap, because he will get crystals again.

But I will likely keep him on the Eagle pack May see about EVO, since there is a lady here in town that sells it.

The pet shop here carries Nutrience(puke), Eagle Pack, Orijen for sure, and something I cant remember.  So I think I will stick with the eagle pack.

The rest of your brood is very cute too.   Tonka doesn't look real.  He looks like a stuffed dog.  That is one well groomed dog.
